blowoff vavle for turbo question!!

This is the first turbo car I've owned. Hearing rumors from people that state, blow off on turbo's increase performance, responsiveness and keeps the turbo running longer. Is this a myth or do people just think its cool to hear that annoying noise.

The 135i, has 2 BOVs from the factory. They just recirculate back into the intake tubes. If you want that Fast and Furious sound, you'll need to purchase an aftermarket BOV kit that discharges to the atmosphere.

Blow Off Valves do absolutely nothing for performance. They simply prevent compressor surge.

When running high boost i suggest a blow off valve or a set of forged diverter valves. I have already seen two cars that were running higher boost which had their factory diverter valves crack, leak, and fail. You cant compare the structural rigidity of plastic and steel when it comes to holding 15lbs of boost pressure.

So yes a BOV or diverter valve does help out when running higher boost.

Yes, but unless you are doing some groundbreaking mods on fuel and upgrading turbos, our stock diverter valves are generally more than capable of handling the 14-15psi the current chips tune to. you would see allot more than two post on the e90 forums complaining about it if it was a common problem.

Two failures is enough for me. Its not a common failure because many of the people running 15lbs of boost are running either BOV's or forged diverter valves. Thus you would not hear of many stock valves failing.

That cheap sound has no place on a BMW, but that's just my opinion. Later.

You can put forged diverter valves on the car if you don't like the sound of a BOV. there is also ones that are switchable from one to the other.

This thread is 8 years old. If you had searched, or even read the thread, you would have gotten an answer quickly. Perhaps someone else will help. How did you even find this? I just can't even.
