Morr Wheels - Group Buy

From what research I have done, and I am no expert on this matter; just as Scottn is saying in earlier posts - offset will be a limiting determinant of how concave the wheel will look. Also as Scott has pointed out - the wheel design is obviously very important as to how deeply the wheel can concave into the hub.

The fact that Morr will be developing these wheels for the 1er gets us in essence a custom solution. Concavity, brake clearances all these things still need to be resolved. But I like what I am seeing so far!

I am mostly interested in the performance of the wheel, and the fact that these are probably the lightest, best looking, and strongest wheels for the money weighs heavily for my decision.

IMO either the VS7 or the VS8 both look great and if we can get non-staggered 18's for a really good price we should jump on a GB as the details get firmed up.

At this point I don't know how similar the 20 of us need to be for Carlos to pull the trigger and finalize pricing. I'll try to get some answers on that as we move forward.

My initial intent in starting this thread was to see where folks were falling on this wheel for the 1er. Now I will be working towards making this GB a reality for us as the cars inch painfully slowly towards our shores.

Come on 1er, come on!

So anyone newly interested in these wheels please post in this thread with your preference for 18 vs 19 and VS7 vs VS8!

For me, it's performance then looks. I like these wheels primarily for it's weight savings and materials. I also think both models are visually appealing so it's truly a no brainer for me. Can't wait for the VS10 design!

I am doing this for very selfish reasons! I want those wheels at the best price we can manage. Plus I am new to the BMW scene and needed opinions about the best way to go as far as size, offset, staggered or not, etc.

Those wheels were love at first sight for me. I am a wheel whore and I admit it. I have a problem. The first step...yata yata:wink:

I spent way too much money for BBS RGR's for my Subbie. Wheels and rubber were my first mods.

Sorry if Im ignorant here but how do these compare with other wheels as far as weight? Are they truly on the lower end? Just doesnt seem light at 20 pounds, I think I read 20 pounds. Does anyone know what the stock wheels weigh?

I'm sure you'll be able to find lighter wheels out there, but what I think is the best trade off is the lightest wheel where the strength of the wheel is not a concern.

For comparison,

BBS RGR (very strong, pretty expensive) - 18x8.5 is 18.6 lbs.
BBS RE (almost same cost, strength) - 18x8.5 is 20.5 lbs.

Anything in the 20ish and lighter once you get to 18" is considered in the range of lightweight wheels

OZ makes a light wheel, but I've seen one break on the track. For RGRs, we wrecked the left side of the race car into a tire wall (backed by a concrete wall) that totally wrecked the whole left side of the car (front fender, door, rear quarter panel, both bumpers) and both of the wheels on that side of the car are still fine.

Morr's 19"x8.5", 19"x9.5" are ~20lbs. pretty light for a 19x wheel.
they don't currently make an 18" but those should be lighter. My personal interest with the Morr Monoforged lies in their balance between strength (they are forged), looks, and weight. And their willingness to consider making an 18" wheel to suit the 1er.

Thanks... I was thinking 18ish pounds would be light for small wheels like this. 20 lbs just doesnt seem light bc I think my 19X13 forged wheels are 22lbs (not certain though). I do know the wheel with tire (345/30/19) weighs 55lbs, 49lbs for the front 19X10s

I just want to make sure i get substantial weight savings off OEM wheels.

No problem, you're totally on topic. I'm not sure what materials they use on OEM wheels, but I'm sure it's not the best available. And for a mass produced wheel, they probably over engineer them on purpose because of how some of the people in the world will use and abuse them, so I would imagine 30 lbs. (or maybe more) for an OEM wheel is not out of the question.

All I can speak from is personal experience and with my Advan RS wheels offset was the determining factor for whether the wheel was concave or not. +35=not concave, +29=concave in Evo fitment.
