135i gremlins

Hi everyone,

Has BMW addressed the issue of the HPFP failures and the third brake lights on 2009 models? I've read some embarrassing stories of brake lights coming off at the car wash and fuel pumps failing after the first couple of hundred kays.

HPFP - Yes, but I think people are still having problems. Brake lights - not that I know of.

Add to that list is the sticking dash tray

is the HPFP a 135i phenomenon? and are they only replacing it when it becomes a problem?

335i as well, I think they have a new design - but it seems to be still be a problem.

so is it right to assume its a problem associated with the 35i engines and not, for example, the 125i

Yes. Its for the x35i only. My friend's dad's 535i lost its fuel pump after about 10K miles.

The N54 engine has 2 fuel pumps. The one that is failing is the High Pressure Fuel Pump. BMW will replace it when it is needed. I am calling my dealer tomorrow to try and get the new fuel pump as my car has been having long cranks for the past week. I know of another member that has had his HPFP replaced by complaining about long cranks...Kinda just want the new one so I don't have to worry about it on my next trip to Vegas...

As far as gremlins go. A very loud rattle that comes in the cold and leaves when the temp get above 35.

I had one long crank about a week and a half ago. But it never came back.

And my top may have a loose or about to snap cable in it. I find out on saturday, but it makes noises when it goes up and down now. June build, August delivery, and the top is only up when its in my driveway.

I had my HPFP fail & it was replaced under warranty by BMW, that was at about 25,000km.

They indicated here it is less common than in the US and it may be to do with ethanol content of fuels over there.

Means that it takes longer than usual to start the engine (i.e., the starter is cranking the engine for a long time before the engine starts.)
