I am out of luck!!!
Hi guys,
tried to pop the hood yesterday and nothing happend. I checked the lock on the hood and saw that there is a black rope hanging down. Seems that the rope came of. The car is 1 Day old and has only 155KM on it. Damn!!! The Dealer told me today that they have to remove the kidney and destroy the lock to open the hood. The will have to install a new lock and fix the rope. I'm really pissed. |

why is there rope inside your 1M?
Have sailors been joyriding in your BMW? Does your dealership also sell boats? I keed, I keed. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Hopefully it will be sorted out and everything will good as new. (and the dealer will owe you a favor!)

Sorry for my english. I don't know the exact words for it.
I googled and found out that there es a wire connected from the lever inside (where you pop the hood) to a small black box under the hood on the left side above the wheel arches. From the box there is another cable (looks like a expander) which is connected to the lock release on the hood. That came of. |

WE UNDERSTAND..
yes the cable from the handle inside goes to the latch/ lock. the cable is no more fancy then a cable that you would find on a bicycle that has hand brakes.. no worries... the cable just popped ou or something.. Yes they will break the grills... maybe you can get them to put in black ones where you pay for only one !!! look a good upgrade !!!

Hopefully the dealerhips is making their jobs a lot harder. There is a way to unlatch the car where they will have better access to it after the car is cooled and in the air. Last thing you want is to shove your hole arm up front underneath the car with a hot engine.

I wonder if you could try to grab the cable with something, then just pull. Even using dikes to clip one kidney grill to get to the mechanism first.

That's what i am gonna tell the dealer. Even if he has to remove one kidney to grab the cable. Worst case scenario would be to destroy the lock itself. But first he should try that. |

Now the new is in the garage. I don't know where the rest of the cable went. the cooler has a small dot of damage. looks like a stone hit it, or it was the cable.

Sorry about your luck. Opening the hood is over rated anyway. It's not as if you were going to check the oil level. (trying to make a joke here)
