After endless waiting, I just learned that my car offloads tomorrow. Then it's 10 days or so cruising to the Ohio Valley. Then we have the official transfer of title.
I can't wait until this car arrives. My daughter is graduating from college this year, and I can just tell I'm going to get misty-eyed at one ceremony or the other.

So does the title arrive with the car or later? Do they have to have the title present to sell it to me that day? Essentially my question really is when can I drive my car home?

Yeah.. it's the documents that arrive a couple days later that allow them to title the new vehicle. Without those, you cannot register (or release the car).

So if the vehicle arrives friday, when will I drive it off the lot. Or can I take it for an 'extended test drive' until the papers come in?

Well, they have to prep it first, which can take a day. It comes with shipping blocks in the springs to make it sit higher, and not damage the underside of the car during shipping. Plus, it's dirty and they have to wash it, fit front license plate bracket (which is just thrown in the trunk from the VPC), install mats... You should ask your CA when they think they can get all that done, and if they'll allow you to "do an extended test drive" without that paperwork. |

I hope they don't do that here, my weeks are pretty full so Saturday is the only pick-up day for me and I dont want to leave my car sit for a week.

My "dealer" sent me this info today:
"The car still sits at the VPC. The computer SAYS it will ship today and we should get it on 3/15, but you can never trust the system to be 100% correct when it estimates the future. When I see it say that it is actually on a truck headed this way, then we’ll know for sure. We have been surprised and given a ‘release unit’. So I will have an unsold 135i here for the showroom at the same time yours comes in. We just had an M3 show up as a surprise too." So, I'd say this info means little or nothing as to what will actually happen. I get back in town on the 19th so if it is delayed from the scheduled 3/15 ship date, I'll at least have a chance to clean up my yard and do some other chores that might get set aside otherwise! |

Wow - I thought I would be in line with all you guys to pick up their 1 the third or fourth week of thsi month. I'm having second thoughts now...Mine left the port of exit between the 6th and 10th of this month. Any ideas/guesses on it's arrival to the states?
(I have yet to hear back from my CA with more tracking info on the carrier.)

don't forget, most of ours (first releases) are being held at the VPC by BMWNA. yours shouldn't take as long because it won't have that additional delay. i know mine has been in the states for at least a month now.

My CA just confirmed to me that they can take mine off the truck, run through it real quick to do the stuff they need to do, and release it to me. Title work is done on their time and mailed to me. They said I should have the paperwork in two weeks to take to the BMV to get the plates taken care of.
