Moving Sale: Winter Wheels and Tires - $500

As I said in another post, I'm moving to Los Angeles in January. Thus, I won't be needing my winter wheels. They're mounted and ready to go, just grab a jack and swap them yourself (I do it, you can too!).

Specs:
TireRack Sport Edition CD 17x7.5 wheels
Dunlop Winter Sport 3D 205/50 V rated tires
Factory TPMS sensors installed
BMW center caps

These tires will fit a 128i but not a 135i. They were new in 2008. I've used them for two short winters and swapped them late both years. I've got 26K on Orca, so these tires can't have more than 10K miles on them. In the summers, they live in a stack in my cool basement.

Come pick them up in Belmont, $500 total. This is a steal - they were $1200 new. You can't get a new set of wheels and TPMS for that price, let alone the tires.

Belmont is Boston, so about 4 hours from Long Island, depending on traffic and route.

I'll take a critical look at the tires tonight and give you a report (they've been in the basement since early spring). I'll also try to find a suitable tool for measuring tread depth. I'm not sure I have anything that precise.

As for how they handled, they were very nice in the winter. We have bad roads in the area and there can be a lot of slush. I appreciated them considerably over the stock tires and I was able to immediately compare them when they were new, because I bought them from another 1Addict who bought them for his 135 only to discover that the brake got in the way on the back and they wouldn't fit. So I picked them up on a snowy day, slipping a little on the way to his house, and driving much more confidently on the way back.

Garage List
2006 Volvo V70R  [10.00]
2007 BMW 335i  [10.00]
That is a steal, especially with TPMS. Good luck with the sale. If I still had my 128i and I still lived in Cambridge, I would be all over them...

@DriveHard:
In general, the Winter Sport 3D tires are quite good in the winter, especially if you have a some snow, but often dry, cold road. The reviews on Tirerack.com are quite favorable. They will not be as good in the snow as a dedicated snow tire like a Blizzak WS60, but for the coastal northeast I think they are a good trade-off between snow traction, dry handling, and rate of tread wear.

Hello Amy,

I'm interested and am in Boston. You can reach me at hasegawajohn at gmail if the wheels and tires are still available.

Alex and K -

No one has claimed the tires yet. I got caught up in other moving details last night (arranging a place to live across the country is tricky!), so I didn't have a chance to review the tires. I will do it tonight and post new photos tomorrow.

Amy,

are u sure they are sport edition CD's and not CE's ???? CD's are only avail in 16" and CE's come in 16 and 17...

they both look the same, but just need to clarify wheel size as 16' wont fit over my Perf Brakes.. Thanks...

They are CD, not CE. CE has 9 "spoke pairs", CD has 7. These were purchased 2 years ago, so the offering has obviously changed since then. They were configured for a 128i Sport, so they should fit. I don't have the original invoice because I didn't purchase them directly, but I can point you to the original post that I bought them from.

Okay, I've just had a chance to look them over. My basement lighting isn't the best, so the photos suffer some. One wheel does have a little curb damage near the edge (see bottom of 4th photo, detail in last photo, hard to focus on it due to bad lighting, flash washed it out completely). Otherwise, other than a little dirt, they are in fine condition.

I confirmed that they are stamped 17x7.5 on the inside of the wheels. I was unable to actually get a photo of this due to the lighting (my camera just couldn't focus on it).

I also took a reading on the tread depth. According to TireRack's penny test, the tread depth fully covers the top of the Lincoln Monument and then some. I also used a sewing ruler which shows a tread depth of just over 8/32" (see photo).
