Rear defrost catastrophic failure
Pretty bizarre, but the other day while on my way to work I notice my rear window is shattered! My initial thought was vandalism, but after I parked right away I notice upon further inspection the defrost line had "burned out" for lack of a better term. Anyone heard of this!?

Did you have window tint or anything like that installed? If installers aren't careful they can mess up those lines. Rare I'm sure but it's happened.
Otherwise I've never seen another 1 series report this. Hopefully your still under warranty or extended.

Damn, that's pretty crazy. I've never seen that before, I wonder what could have caused that. Had to be a pretty substantial amount of energy to get it that hot and shatter the window, though.

Also, on my 335i, the rear defroster is switched off automatically after a certain time. Could this mechanism have failed? |

Im not certain which happened first. I recognized it all at once. Thankfully my car was under its extended warranty so BMW replaced it. They said they see this happen at least once a year. Thanks for the feedback
