Would you go to your appointment...
If you had a yellow check engine light for 3 days and now it's not there anymore ?
Maybe they could tell me what was the error code ? Also, is it possible that there is a "safe mode" in the computer that prevents full power if the light has been on until your visit to the dealer ? I have an appointment friday morning. Thanks! |

Yes, I would. The worst that can happen is a little wasted time.

i had that exact situation, i went to the appointment, they pulled codes but did NOTHING because the light was already off. It was just a big waste of my time and effort.

Is the decrease in power normally really easy to tell, like during pre-PDI ?

I had the yellow engine light go on 3 times over the span of a couple of days. Everytime i would turn off the car and restart it and it would be gone. The engine would crank a couple times before starting. I made an appointement and now i have a new HPFP.

3 days...yes bring it in. I was told they could view even the slightest misfire in the error log. That said, the same guy told me NO FAULT codes were reported after a few long cranks and yellow lights...the SAME guy refused to respond to my HPFP inquiries...the SAME guy told me my pass airbag sensor threshold was 80lbs!?!?!?!
It may be a waste of your time, but still bring it in...dealers sometimes need a paper trail in order to get BMWNA authorization to do repairs. If anything, start the paper trail of complaints. |

I agree with the paper trail issue. It supposedly takes 5 complete on/off cycles to clear a check engine light if there is no issue anymore.

Fisrt time was sunday night. Monday morning I was at the dealer. the girl advisor told me It may be a loose gaz cap. went outside and checked. Nope... Then she said it's nothing to worry about, it's PROBABLY just some emission things... And the sooner they could give me an appointment is tomorrow morning. Is it normal that I'm not satisfied with the answer given ? :iono:
The light stayed on until wednesday night. I guess I'll stop by... |

Two HPFP's later, yes take it in. If you are having long cranks with it, it will throw the code to replace the HPFP. I had no problem at all with the dealership. Newest pump is in place, 12K miles, no problems.

Check out my thread.
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16269 Your issues sound similar but I am not sure since you did not give a whole lot of info. I do think that my issues are worst case scenario and that my dealership is not the best around but there could be a common issue floating around with our 1ers. The more of us that come on here and report them the better we will all get served. I have been told at first mine was the gas cap just like you. This could be false but the BMW tech told me three days later that a loose gas cap has its own fault seperate from the check engine light. I have also been through a low pressure fuel pump replacement and two coil replacements and I still have the same issues. Good luck man:thumbup: If you want more info on my dealings with the dealership PM me:w00t: Brandon

Dude, the girl advisor? Does not quite sound like a mechanic. It sounds like you are hesitant to take it in.

Well, It's in !
Let see what they'll tell me... I-One-Da, I can't say it's the exact same problem since your car was shaking and with a rough idle and mine is not. Bad luck seems to be with you my friend... Thanks for your input guys! |

Mine did start out like yours with just the lights though. It then progressed to limp mode and such. Lets hope your issues stop here:w00t:

OK, here are the details (if you can call it this way)
(sorry, this is translated from french so it might not be the exact terms, and trust me, even in french it's hard to understand) CONCERN: Check engine light on for 3 days CAUSE: Software error CORRECTION: Verified if check engine light is on and OK Evap code done test plan and verified harness and OK Check fire & ignition B+ and groud and OK Done Done venting test and OK System no testing repeat test module verified bulletin and OK #160108 update on DME done special measure on DME and OK Road test OK Verify if code will be back 2A1A So... they reflashed the car. And it shows ! It seems quite similar to this post http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...highlight=2a1a except they didn't replace any parts. The girl said they reflashed the car. So I ask "is 2A1A" the error code and she's like "Hum...yeah. Sometimes it's easier to fix the car with a reflash". Anybobody knows what #160108 update and 2A1A error is? Thanks again! |
