Wide body kits

Hi there, I've been looking into a 1 series lately, but in my opinion, the sides could be wider. Are there any wide body kits out there for the 1 series? Thanks!

Is there any not that expensive fender flares for sale? So we could install any type of wheels without rubbing issues.

I was talking to this guy at the LTBMW grand opening. He said he was going to be making a 1M kit. He told me to keep a look out on the forum.

^That sounds awesome! Does it include the rear? The rear is a bit more involving... probably have to cut and patch, etc...

HAI.. I'm waiting for my vendor status to kick in before making any official posts lol.. But it was great meeting some of you at LTBMW GrandOpening!

Yes we're going to be making a 1M "Copy" of the kit- Think M3 and M-Tech but I'm going to be doing it out of scratch this will include the FRONT SIDES and REAR (all 1 piece full replacements).

But no it will not be a wide body. I'm going to steer away from that for a few number of reasons (also good food for thought for anyone considering widebody):

1. COST. You're going to be paying to PREP -> PAINT -> INSTALL the following:
Fiberglass FRONT
Fiberglass FENDER
Fiberglass SIDESKIRT
Fiberglass REAR
Cut OEM Rear Quarters + Mold Fiberglass "Flares" on & Paint

Together at our shop we'd charge about $1,400-and up for an "out of the box kit" from a random unknown manufacture. Not knowing quality fitment etc..

Now you have wheels.. and tires.. assuming you run something like 275/30/20 with a 305/25/20 thats about another grand in tires.. with custom offset wheels (meaning no used wheels).

Probably going to want proceed or something to back up the looks $$

and you havent bought the kit yet lol.. there's a realistic cost of a widebody and why it's so rare for people to do it.

Aside from that the disadvantages comes as:
Fiberglass doesnt really flex and "work" with the body. When you tackle corners the stiff chassis flexes and results in the awesome handling.. When you cut into the quarter panel you ruin some of the quarter panel's integrity.. and if you just stick some fiberglass on it.. it'll most likely almost 100% crack where the glass meets the quarter.. ways around it is to weld a metal plate or glass the fiberglass onto the quarter itself.

Fenders need to flex with the chassis too this results in cracking of the fender's mounting points.. also if you scrape you're pushing against the fender also causing it to flex.. over time it'll crack.

Now when I say flex this is very minor and it'll usually take years to show noticeable signs -driving habits also have a lot to do with it.

But the above is some things to consider before widebodying.. oh and the resale value takes a dump lol
