damaged icarbon diffuser
hi folks,
noticed this damage to my diffuser . the damage is mainly to the clear coat. scratched and chipped. is it possible to repair this? if not, should I use body filler to fix the chip and then sand and paint the whole diffuser black? at this point I either have to trash it or make the best out of it. appreciate your opinions. thanks,

looks like the clear coat is cracked & chipped badly, not an easy repair without damaging carbon fibre material below. Did you scrape something when you were backing in?

no it wasn't me. actually the scratches go beneath the car. doubt it was a car that caused the damage. seems like something low rolled into the back. at this point I don't care about the CF finish. I would be ok with spraying it black but would like to fix the damage before doing that

Try to find good #3000 grit dry/wet SiC sandpaper. This is used on clear coats for cars so should be ok. That being said, don't buy cheap #3000 grit sandpaper, try to find 3M or St Gobain. Good luck.

oooops...didn't see that. That's gonna be a tough one. Maybe a clear epoxy to blend with the cracks, then polish with #3000 grit paper (?) Sorry, no idea. Maybe a local body shop can recommend a clear epoxy filler.

I had a similar problem with a JC Sportline Diffuser I bought. It arrived from the Vendor like this:
It was gonna cost me $500 to send it back to them and they didn't have any replacements in stock so the gave me a bit of a refund and I took it to a local boatbulder who works with fibreglass. He sanded down the clear coat, filled it back in and re-finished it: Might be worth giving it a try? |

You're welcome mate... I did quite a bit of ringing around so see what could be done and a boat builder seemed to be the best bet... Really happy with the job he did as I was absolutely devastated when it turned up broken...
