Why would you put a smaller rotor on the car? The loss of 13 mm of circumference im sure is a lot more material than the 2mm of thickness you'd gain.

Well positive things is that M3 have a floating rotor which would not warp like ours also it is crossed drilled which is good for heat exchange and it is thicker nad much lighter weight.

The negative thing is that it is 13 mm smaller if you calculate from both sides 6.5 mm from one side which is almost nothing

i was able to fit the 135I calipers to my Z4 with just 5mm spacers on the OEM carriers, makes me wonder if thats all we would need to make it work on the 1 series......... hmmmmm makes me want to pull it apart and do a test fit on my
1er........

for the record these are the Z4M rotors which are also used on the CSL 3 series, i think they were a tad larger than the M3 rotor, but its been a while and my memory is foggy.

Really? Perhaps you want to read up on levers and torque.

So the OEM carriers are the stock parts that came on your Z4 3.0 from the factory, right?

No their the stock 135i calipers but they bolted right up to the stock steering knuckle of the Z4 no modding needed. Perfect fit. All I had to do was add 5mm spacers on the part that the caliper attached to so it could be moved out to accept the bigger rotor.... The 5mm spacers where welded on the stock carrier and looks fantastic and just as strong as anything. Thing works perfectly.

I'm wondering what it would take to make it fit the 1er....

Basically you can have less surface area the further out you go but when moved closer in you need more surface area to stop.

So your end result was a modified caliper carrier, like the one sold in this thread.

Interesting..

yep but it was a stock one that everybody has already and can get done at any machine shop for 20 bucks vs trying to buy a aluminum one from across the world.

shipping can make these literally not worth it, I paid 170 us dollars to mail two caliper carriers to a guy in Columbia, that was just shipping. have no idea what it would be all the way from Russia.

also noted is the new mini cooper GP uses the same 6 piston caliper from our cars as well.

it seems BMW has kept the attachment points for the carrier to work with many different BMW products. its just getting the rotor to work.

here are pics of my modified carriers.

them being steel instead of aluminum means their hella strong.

So these 5mm can cause a need for new wheels to get clearance?

I have the same wheels as the Russian pictures. Therefore by logic the rotor won't fit

Well the 5mm was with the z4 not sure how many mm is needed for another application. The holes may align and all but their placement to the hub may be closer or further.

I had to move the caliper 5mm to make it work with the clearances of my application and haven't dived into looking at what it would take to fit the 1 series. So 5mm does not mean that it would make to work on your car as this 5mm was meant for the z4 as to the Z4M rotor and caliper was never meant for my non-M car. But after a little work all bolted up just fine

And also the hat of the M rotor may be to shallow or deep requiring further modification to the carrier. The Z I just lucked out that the depth of the hat was the same as the suspension for the Z4M. The suspension for the Z4 and Z4M are from different models of 3 series (z4-e46) (Z4M-e36M)
