Hahaha.... What are you trying to say?
I'm still happy with my D600 at this stage but there's a couple of lenses that I've got my eye on... |

That one, the EF-S 10-22mm USM F3.5-4.5, and the EF 14MM F2.8L USM...
So only about $5000 worth... |

Haha.. it's only the Dark Side if you started with a Nikon... I tried to use a Nikon once and it didn't make any sense... You'd probably find the same if you picked up a Canon
Still made sense though - There is a Canon 17mm-55mm f2.8 lense http://www.teds.com.au/canon-ef-s-17-55mm-f2-8-is-usm It's a beautiful Lense... |

It's a nice camera but I'd choose (and did) the Canon D600 instead. They're around the same price but the general consensus is that the Canon has slightly better image quality - it has 1.8 million more pixels in it's sensor.
The other thing is that I find the Canon easier to use. Some of the buttons that the Canon has you'd have to go up to a D7000 Nikon to get.. Direct ISO Button White Balance Button Drive Mode Button Auto Focus Mode Button They're also laid out in a more user-friendly way... and the Canon feels better built when you hold it... I know that depending on your needs/skill level you may not actually use all the features of the D600 but over time as one's skills improve I think the Canon is closer to the next level and therefore less limiting... They advised me to get the body with a single lens, and invest in quality for more zoom or a fixed shorter lens. For about $1500 you can easily get the D7000 and a 18-105mm which will get you out of trouble until you buy more lenses. (and that's what I did )

+1 to both of those. I should have mentioned that I also did not buy the twin lens kit. They look like a good deal but you won't be happy with the lenses...

I bought the D7000 with the 18-105 for about 1450 in Hong Kong last year. I barely use the 18-105 as i have a 12-24, 35mm and a 100macro. Tim, if you many to get a body only i will sell the 18-105 cheap?
Back onto general camera topic, i came from Pentax to the Nikon . Pentax has the features of more expensive cameras and just as good (if not better) build quality. Problem is the low light quality isn't as good as N or C dslrs. |

Some great information here regarding cameras. I've had my eye on the D7000 for a while but haven't pulled the trigger just yet. The 1080p video recording is a huge plus for me. I'm content with my iPhone 4S 8mp camera for now though

D7000 is easy to use with familiarisation. You can set up quick access in the customisable "My Menu" section. There is 1 button ISO and WB on the back. I was told to learn to use a fixed focal length lens, spend the most you can on quality lenses over a body within any given budget and study composition. I only buy the FX lenses and allow for the cropping factor, eg. my Fx 35mm f/2 is about a 50mm on my D7000 Dx camera. It's a great go anywhere lightweight lens that will shoot in almost pitch black darkness. If go to a full format my Fx lens will fit. Though I can't see the need as the D7000 is so good.
All I need is the skill to go with all this stuff. |

What's the difference between the bodies? So many different ones to choose from. My brother has a Nikon not sure what though but decided to buy a Sony Alpha to carry around... so confused...

Easier for you to Google "what's the difference between Fx and Dx formats?" than for me to try to explain it.

Thanks for the tips guys & thanks for the offer BBK. I may talk to you about this down the line.
Unless my career as a porn cameraman takes off I'm not interested in video, just stills. I'd started by looking at the D3100 and thought I'd stretch to the recently released D5100. Maybe I should stretch further? While I'm keen for good quality I don't want to lug around a big heavy body. I might do a bit more reading before I buy. |
