Is it me or are lots of people selling their 1's

Seems that way to me...less people posting about new mods and many new "for sale" posts. Also lots of "parting out" posts too. Seems like more mods the quicker the car comes up for sale.

Are people moving on already??

Its not uncommon for people to buy a new car every 3 years or so. And if you do the math, we are into our 3rd model year already.

I am undecided if Im going to get another 135 next year or try something else.

People get bored easily. I've noticed the same thing with the modded cars but if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. People mod their cars to keep them new and interesting to them and eventually they get to a point where not much more can be done at which point you'd move on to something new.

Why get a new 135? I have another year before my lease runs up and I'm planning on getting my dealer to CPO it back to me. The payments will be less than any new lease and for the life of me I cannot figure out a single improvement (other than the nav post-2009).

I usually lease cars every 3-4 years, but after buying off lease my wife's Volvo V50 (which has performed flawlessly since purchase), I am now more open to the merits of driving a car much longer.

My current 'plan' is to drive my 135 as a daily up to 75K miles, get a M3 as a daily driver and use the 135 as a toy.

I think the N54 1 Series will be a collectable (as much as a recent model vehicle can be). I think the modability and simplicity of the car will be valued.

I would like to keep mine but I will be at 60k already

I put miles on way too quick..Im afraid my baby wont be worth anything after my 3 year lease is up.

It will just be cheaper to lease a brand new one especially with the new value package..I had to pay for all that originally and MSRP too.. I hope to get a much better deal this time around

Bah, old BMW's are more fun than new ones. I think I've spent the grand total of about three or four 1er payments on my 125k mile M Coupe over the last three years.

I got an extended warranty from BMW so I'm set to 100k. But I plan on keeping this car for a while.

I agree - the most fun comes from not making car payments.

But If you believe these forums, most folks are now convinced that their BMW will fall apart at 50,001 miles and they will have to sell their first born to pay for the repairs!

Simplicity on a 1 Series? Where?!

This thing has one of the most complicated mass produced engines on the market (Direct injection, variable valve timing, electric water pump, two fuel pumps, two wast a ton of finicky electronics, six airbags, about a dozen CAN Bus modules that can go bad and require the entire system to be upgraded (which only a dealer can do) and sensors everywhere.

There's nothing simple about a modern BMW. This car is going be a serious headache later on in its life.

and I agree with jeremyc74... bmw's are over engineered. That coupled with the way I tear my car up, I wouldn't consider owning it out of warranty.

I leased mine to get out of my upside down on my previous e46. I'm planning to get an e92 M3 after the lease. But this car is starting to grow on me as the day goes by.

So you're gonna buy a $80k M car to drive daily and then use your $30k 1 series, mass produced car as a "toy". I think you got it backwards!

Very few BMWs become collectable. The most collectable BMW in the last 40 years is the original M1. The Z8 may be collectable, but that remains to be seen.

People may think the E30 M3 is collectable, but it is not rare enough.

This thread is asking about people who will be selling their 1er, but most of the responses have been from people who lease - meaning they never owned the car to begin with. Obviously people who lease vs. buy have different goals and priorities.

Those who lease are likely to walk away when it's over because they typically like to drive something new. It would be interesting to see how many people plan on keeping their 1ers long after it's paid off. I did the 5-year .9% finance expecting to keep her at least 3-5 years after I'm done making payments and so far my plans haven't changed. I still love driving mine.

Here in denmark, the situation right now is that prices on the 135i used is going up :-) so for now i am keeping mine, also i just checked, there is exactly 5 used 135i's for sale right now here :-)

I've had mine for a little over 2 years and I want to trade up. I just need something a bit more practical now (i.e. 4 doors). In my head it's still my "new car" even though it's got 35k miles now!

Unfortunately they're not holding their value as well as I was expecting.
