1M Aftermarket Parts

I am super excited about the 1M, and I am number one on my dealers list for one. I went out for a test drive in a 135i m sport today ... and I loved it! So it can only get better with the 1M.

This got me thinking (I am an avid reader of 1addicts ... and yes, I am a girl!) What kind of aftermarket parts will be available for the 1M?

Some will say, dont spoil such a special car with aftermarket parts, but personally, I like adding a personal touch to my cars.

The answer that I have come to is no, there will not be many aftermarket parts made for the 1M - why?

- Only 2700 being made worldwide - why would the aftermarket tuners put so much into developing the best exhausts, turbos, air filters etc when they only have a very limited market to sell to?

Yes I know it is highly probable that some items made for the 135i will fit the 1M, especially if rumor is right and the 1M's engine is based on the N54 engine.

Dont get me wrong - this will not stop me purchasing a 1M if I have the chance, but it did make me stop and think.

What do you guys all think on this topic?

Alice

I think that if the 1m comes with the runored larger turbos than a lot of us N54 guys will grab them and make ourselves a 1M engine. Then the support will be there

I'm sure a variety of existing upgrades can be carried over. Slightly modified tunes, exhausts, intercoolers, coil-overs, etc.

This sparks a question to me.

Wouldn't you be looking for aftermarket M3 suspension bits not 135 bits?

From 135 to 1M?
or
From M3 to 1M?

I guess I didn't think the coil-overs would be transferable as the suspension geometry would be different.

It's highly likely the M3 coilovers will also fit on the 1M.

Thanks.

But I think I phrased my thoughts poorly.
I was meaning for the 1M you would be looking for M3 aftermarket suspension bits vs 135 suspension bits, or would both work on the 1M? (Theoretically)

So when I said:

I meant - I didn't think the 135's aftermarket coil-overs would be transferable, you would need to get M3 bits for that.

OK, now I get it.

I agree. 135i suspension bits and pieces won't likely fit on the 1M.

Hi Alice, interesting thread, you make some very good points.

Personally, I believe there will still be plenty of aftermarket upgrades available for the 1M. There will undoubtedly be some overlap with the 135i, and conversely, parts currently made for the 135i could conceivably be made to fit the 1M with slight modification.
