I'm really on the fence about this now. I finished mounting the hood. Fitment was fine and the OEM hood latches solidly. The "hook" catch snaps in place as well. I can't help wondering if I really need to install these aero-locks.
Even with moderate track usage. I just can't imagine this thing pulling so hard that the screws in the hood rip out (that seems like the greatest point of weakness- the screws that bolt the latches to the hood. Thoughts?

I hear you. The hood looks great as is and hood pins will ruin it. But again, why risk it? If you track the car, put them on. Just my 2 cents.

I think everyone knows in the back of thier mind that they need them, but it seems like they want to convince themselves otherwise. You can lead a horse to water.......

There isn't "flex"...a more accurate description would be "lift" I think....when the air gets under the front of the hood it creates lift in the same way an aircraft wing does. The front hood latch only secures the center of the hood but not the areas immediately adjacent to it....this causes the hood look like it is floating without the hood pins... |

Exactly. Thats how we do it on the USAF Thunderbirds if we have to remove a panel.

Are those the OEM hood struts? Or did you get an after market option? I know with my CF hood the OEM struts are to powerfully damped and would cause damage to the hood when trying to shut it...so I left them off and got a hood stand....

Using oem hood struts not seeing any issues. I will continue to monitor closely and will remove struts if I see any damages.

def need to paint the screws simon! looks good but should have left some carbon exposed, the area where the grills are would have looked really good exposed on AW. also why didn't you get the underside fully painted? looks "unfinished"

Just swapped out to Perf Gloss grills so I am leaving the screws black for now. I was thinking about leaving parts of it CF but... it just wasn't my thing. Never thought about painting the underside of the hood since its closed anyways =)

I really want to do a CF Hood as well.
Thinking about pins, they don't look THAT bad, and I'd rather have the pins (counting any aesthetic distaste, the cost, the installation), than ever have the hood fly up, blind me while driving, or cause damage to someone else (directly, or because I was blinded). Even if the chance is very slight, it's a chance I wouldn't want to take.
