HPFP FAIL (4,300 miles) October 29, 2009
Model Year 2009 Shell/Chevron/Exxon / 93 / Texas Refill Level (1/8) I should note that the pump never actually failed, but I took my car in for service a couple of days ago for long cranks. The dealer (BMW of Austin) called BMW and got authorization to install a new HPFP. They tell me the long crank issue is gone. Going to pick up my car today. EDIT: Long crank issue resolved. Car starts right up now. Last edited by VisualCSharp; 11-02-2009 at 12:01 PM.. |

Well, I got a REALLY long start today. Mine may finally be on the way out. I have never varied from Shell, Chevron, or QT. I do remember some long starts about this time last year. I took it in thinking it was the fuel pump and it ended up being a bad injector?
Seems odd that it is happening at the same time again this year. I still think it has something to do with the change from RFG (summer gas) to non RFG gas.

So, my fuel pump was finally replaced about a month ago and when I got the car back it was idling funny. They told me to wait two weeks to see if the car just needed to re-adapt but no luck, it kept doing it. I ended up having all six injectors replaced + new spark plugs. It runs fine now...
Once again, if it is just bad design on the fuel pump then why are the injectors failing? What do these parts have in common? Hmmmm, maybe the fuel?
