I have an FJ and it rocks for a suv, built and looks like a tank! Enjoy!

As far as trade in you have to find a hungry dealer, they are out there, you just have to do the leg work. I traded my C6 in on another Evo X and I got 41500 out of it. It's on there lot for 42999. I payed 42,500 for it....

I live in the midwest with all kinds of weather and Im looking for a more capable reliable vehicle...the 1 series is great unless it snows more than a few inches or rain water reaches a few inches. I used to have an FJ years ago...visibility is awful, but gas isn't that much worse than 1 series, both are 6 cylinder engines.

That being said, as the weather is starting to break, Im enjoying the 1 series more, especially with the BMW performance muffler, both are turing heads!

The FJ is NOT ugly, see attached, that thing is bad a$$! And where did you see they were redesigning, please point me to your source. The FJ is like the jeep, minor updates but design remains the same...

I walked into sterling bmw the other day on a whim. I wanted to trade my 2011 135i m sport zero options 26700 miles..they offered me 23k$ and I said no thanks..they and came back in and offered me 30k$ I still declined because I didn't want to lease and the finance payment was higher than I wanted to spend. But thy told me the reason they wanted my car was to put a low price on it to bring people in the door. I found that intresting.

An fj? Really? Put snows on the car and move on. Couldn't be caught dead in that thing.

If the guy wants an FJ so be it...to each their own, and I think the main point of his post was in regards to trading his 1er.

While I agree you should just get snows for the 1, the FJ is a pretty nice vehicle looks aside. It is available in manual, has Toyota reliability, easy to work on, and pretty damn capable off road. A friend and I built one up a few years ago and it was pretty badass.

can't compare to the 1, if snow is the only issue then case closed with snow tires.

They aren't related as far as I'm concerned.

And yes, all but the most serious snow can be cured with proper tires.

They are if they are trading because of snow. If its for other reasons then I agree. I thought the op stated later on in the thread that snow was the issue.

If it's of any value, I just traded my 2012 128i convertible 6sp, premium, m sport, nav with 7,800 miles for $32,500. They've got it on the lot for $36,000 and some change. Maybe not the best deal financially, but I wanted a 135i vert before they stopped making the 1 series. Can't wait for May when my new baby arrives!

I actually like the FJ and at one point prior to picking up my 1 series I was thinking about getting an SUV and that would have been it. However, the interior leaves much to be desired but the exterior rocks for an SUV.

There probably is no way to lose more percentage wise in depreciation in all of car shopping than to buy a car new and then trade it in after a year. The only real way to reduce the pain is to sell it privately.

dealer asking prices are different from actual selling prices. it depends on a lot of factors. My 128i was 27997. it was sitting at the dealership for 2 1/2 months. I walked in an I was able to get it at 21600 plus taxes and fees.

So to answer your question, yes they do have that much margin in a used car.

thats insane! nice deal...

the most im getting quoted is $23500 and thats from a good handful of dealers. i went this weekend to look at the FJ and it was in AWEFUL shape! inside all torn up, glove box wouldn't even close, gas cap ripped clean off and left deep gouges in the paint down to the bare metal. the whole trunk area looked like a caged tiger was kept in it including the hay...These guys are nuts to think they will get anything over $17000 for it if that! I wouldn't pay $15k

There are a few other FJs going for mid-high teens with 75k+ on them but most are blue...see attached
