MTF-LT-5 Poll

How many of you 1M owners changed out your transmission fluid at break-in service?

OP UPDATE: I guess what I'm trying to get at is if this is really necessary? How important is changing the transmission fluid at 1,200 miles?
.

You may need to know the country in which respondents are located to make sense of these results.

The proper fluid is still not available at US dealerships, but is available elsewhere.

Anyone know when LT-5 will be available in the US or where I can get a few quarts?

I found this source for FFL-3

As the dealer did not include the transmission fluid change in my break-in service, I am planning on doing it myself.

I dropped my car off for run-in service today. They said they would be replacing the tranny fluid as well as diff and engin oil. I printed out in BOLD lettering a sheet with the fluids part numbers. Also printed out the service bulliten for the diff fluid. I left a copy in the driver seat and gave a copy to the advisor. I'm pretty certain they will screw it up..

Will report back this afternoon.

Well they wisened up on the tranny fluid and didn't change as it's not required. I know a lot of people got it done for free as the dealership didn't realize they weren't supposed to. Probably all my printouts promped them to take a closer look. That's ok though. It sounds like they used correct fluids everywhere else (will confirm at pick up) and I'll just change the tranny fluid myself. I've been looking for an excuse to get it up on jackstands

I called in advance and they said it would be a couple of weeks before the fluid would be in. Then a week later they said it was in. I verified MTF-LT5 and they said yes. The car is done, but I can't pick it up until tomorrow anyway. Keep my fingers crossed.

I had to pay for the tranny fluid.

ULTIMATE BURN!!

So, I picked up my car yesterday, glanced at the paperwork and was on my way. I noticed something hand written but to be honest I was way to excited finally get to go full throttle and redline!!

So, today I went out to my car to get the paperwork and see what they did. As promised, they put all the right fluids in and fixed a couple little items I had.

Flipping through the paperwork I get to a webpage print out with some handwriting on it. Turns out its a print out of what I wrote in the quote above and below in pen it says:

'Hope I did not dissapoint. -Your service technician'

I was floored! And then I laughed about it and showed to everyone in the office. Good on ya for not only using all the correct fluids but finding where I called ya out on the net. I'm sure you and the other techs got a good chuckle out of finding that! It made my day finding the print out in my car I'll never doubt you again!

I got my run-in service done yesterday and the tranny fluid was not replaced. I called and emailed ahead of time (last week) to discuss/review the correct fluids. The service manager told me the proper tranny fluid "from BMW" had not yet been issued in the US. As soon as they receive it, I'll get a call and will run it in again, most likely on my own dime.
