Virtual dash boards....... ok, I'm old school.

A friend of mine who's had his Audi S3 for just over a year now advised me that he's thinking of taking a big hit on it as he wants the new model with the active dash. Ok, I though he was mad, but i know what it's like to want something.

So I was in the 1M waiting for my wife, and I was studying the dash with its 'actual' dials, and realised I loved them. Just like the way I love mechanical analogue watches, just as the way I enjoy the way the front wheels wriggle and jiggle on uneven surfaces.

I know times are changing, and the technology is amazing, but........ it made me realise that right now, I think I've gone as far as I want my machines to go, it's not the fastest, it's not the smoothest, it's not the safest, but it's damn near perfection to me. In fact apart from a slightly lower seating position, I would not change a thing on it.

I, like may of you who really appreciate them, am so fortunate to have this beautiful, angry, analogue driving device waiting for me to enjoy whenever I want.

Virtual dash boards.....Pfffttt......

Virtual dashes are kinda cool but also then very distractive and just not very easy to deal with .. every frickin setting is moved within the dash itself so you have to fiddle around with it everynow and then .

Analogue FTW !

Our dashes are amazingly clear and effective . Even the m2 dash is smaller busier and busier. The revised one is better but I am 100% with you. My wife had 2008 GTI and while a great car it was not the most reliable so I asked her to look at the new civic si. She sat in it and was liking it until she turn the key and the digital dash starts doing all sorts of crazy stuff and the speedo swings around. You are enveloped with blue lights and craziness. Anyway, she politely declined the test drive and as we leave she says. I'm sorry honey but the dash was horrible. : ). We the sat in 2017 GTI with beautiful white on black dials and we were both home again.
