Shift knob options for the 1M

In my previous car (the STi), I requested a Duracron shift knob because it didn't wear poorly like the standard leather shift knob. In addition, it never got too hot/cold while sitting parked. My Type-R titanium shift knob (while I loved it) always got scalding in the summer and cold as ice in the winter.

Are there any good/clean replacements for the stock shift knob on the 1M? I would prefer a illuminated duracron-like or some other material other than titanium if possible. The leather shift knobs feel so unconnected with the driver experience, while I feel the other harder surfaces connect you better. I guess I just like "feeling" the transmission through the shifter. Any ideas?

How about the BMW Performance shift knob (the one in the left)?
It's not illuminated though.

The stock knob is bonded to the boot so prepare for some work if you want to retain the stock shift boot.

Is the stock shifter illuminated? Anyone got a pic?

I was afraid of that, is there a vendor that sources just the 1M boot?

please don't take this personally rich, but that's a really strange design. i can't really say it doesn't work without testing it on a car, but it's aesthetically lacking.

Umm... maybe if you intend to never use the sixth gear again.

i didn't want to be the first one to say it...but yeah, I'm not really liking the look of that shift knob. besides the 5 gear layout, it looks like something that is more fitting on a camaro (transformer-ish).

Drilled pool ball. Not as ridiculous as it may appear. You don't need the shift pattern as I assume you know how to drive.

The shifter pattern is interchangeable.

We have designs for the Reg 5 speed, Dogleg 5 Speed and 6 Speed.

You can get custom stainless shift knobs as well as billiard ball knobs (that almost sounds dirty) at http://www.whalenshiftmachine.com/
I've seen his work on MINIs and it's top notch

Drill

I had one of his Shifters on my 2008 MCS JCW.

Gorgeous workmanship.

I do too...I love it actually. But after a couple of years, the leather starts to wear and it just feels "squishy". After you have a duracron or titanium shift knob you'll never want another leather shift knob. You just feel so connected with the transmission and the car overall! i guess since there aren't a lot of great options out there, i'll go with the performance shift knob and a short shift kit. i really wish there were more options out there to choose from!
