The 135i is an aluminum alloy block (the N54 engine), I don't think it's sleeved though. There's a sticky in the 135i Engine forum with the details of the N54. The 128i uses the N52 block which is a mag/al casting.

OK, I am so pissed bmw. I have a deposit down and now this. Yesterday the option list allowed me to buy leather without preimium pack and get the wood trim at n/c so my car is under 40k. Now not an option and $300 more than the pack i printed out. Now i must get premium. My wifes 335 sedan was loaded for a main car. This is supposed to be a side car. If the op is not a joke then lets see. I hope it is a supply problem because I am not impressed.
that said, I know the first data we got may be covert and wrong but come on i sent you guys $$$$k for my 335, let me order this car, my car my way. Sorry, gotta go tell the wife that I lied about the price. Its not the money its business. |

What is so great about leather seats? I keep reading that everyone has to have it. Is the standard leatherette that bad? Does anyone have pictures, or have experiences with the leatherette that he/she can share? Thanks.

?? Standard seating is just that.. non-leather. Have you not EVER sat in leather seats? Once you do, you'll want nothing other! |

Except for the cool color options thing, which is probably a significant reason as to why BMW NA is offering more than just Black/Taupe leather. I'm thinking the uptake rate on those two particular colors won't be so hot, in lieu of those also being the leatherette colors. Leatherette is fine for me. |

There was a post on leatherette somewhere and the consenses was that if you really want leather, go for it ... but for the price upgrade alot of people thought it wasn't worth it .. also a few said they would actually prefer the leatherette as it up keeps a little easier ..

Mag/alum is a commonly encountered aerospace alloy with BMW either sleeving or hard-coating the cylinders. With any luck there will be sleeves. While hard-coating may look good on paper it just doesn't wear like a steel sleeve, which, can be replaced. The helicopters I help to produce contain many hard-coated mag/alum bores which require regular repair.

The N52 block is the mag/al alloy block IIRC - the N54 is an aluminum alloy - see this sticky:

Leatherette keeps up a LOT easier than leather. Five years from now, it will still look as good as new with extremely minimal maintenance. Meanwhile your leather side bolsters will be cracked and scuffed.

Art has hit on it. That PDF clearly declares the N54 has "All aluminum crankcase with iron cylinder liners". The same PDF specs an external oil cooler as well. Thanks Art.

I'm pretty sure I've read that the N54 is an aluminum block and head with iron piston sleeves. Alum is a little too soft for FI applications. Most older turbo engines had iron blocks for this reason.
