Under Bonnet Insulation

I noticed on a previous thread in the US they where discussing whether your 1er came with insulation under the bonnet.

There was a quite a few cars without this insulation and when they inquired with their dealers they where dumbfounded why some cars missed out.

On the 135 you would think it was essential to keep the motor and bonnet insulated.

Have any of the Aussie 135's missed out on this.:iono:

Mines an April Build and doesnt have the insulation. Though not too concerned as the 4pot leaves lotta room in my engine bay, so plenty of cooling.:wink:

Am curious if any 120 Verts come with insulation, though i highly doubt it. Will have to wait till when more owners join up in time.

It is weird..both yours and mine are 6MT and so is yep135, yet his car hasnt got the insulation....no pattern to the madness.:iono:

Hang on mine is wk 13, yours wk 16..... what week is yours Yep135?

Maybe insulation only comes with 135s up to a certain build date....:iono:

Mine's a manual coupe if that matters......

Yes find out your build date. So far wk 13 and wk 16 have them.

larryn, do you know if anyone in the States have them? Maybe the US market missed out on them altogether. Not having the insulation would certainly liberate more of that glorious engine noise.

The other thread was just a random remark..Nothing was concluded..

Arnt the Germans supposed to be methodical,logical and orderly.... This scenario is very UnTeutonic....... If perhaps this was an Alfa owners board it would just be another normal everyday topic.

It's the same in the States, with no sort of rhyme or reason to getting the insulation as you blokes.

I was thinking that not having it might dissipate heat better from the engine bay. While my car is white, the paint will not radiate as much as a dark car into the engine bay on a sunny day. Could car color be part of that equation (taking into account heat dissipation)? Goofy thought, but more other hypotheses have had cars that fall outside of the hypothesis.

If yours is a 5/08 build, that would make it wk 19 >

So maybe BMW dropped the insulation sometime between wk 16 (zuzu's build date) and wk 19. Of course if there are any cars out there that have insulation post wk 19, or no insulation prior to wk 13 (my car), my theory is shot.

This theory of course doesn't apply to the US as larryn's car is wk 4.
