Pro-Tuning Issues
I hope some of you guys may be able to help here as me and my Pro-Tuner are having some drivability issues with the car.
So... N54 with 35k Catless DP's 200 cell catted mids BMW PE ETS FMIC Cobb AP Stock intake Stock CP Stock DV's 94oct always Ok, so with OTS stage 2+ aggressive the car ran great and never failed to accelerate smoothly or cleanly however, since Pro-Tuning the car now hold back power when I accelerate hardly between 2-3.5k. Best described as the car feeling like it's hit a wall after the initial kick of the turbos, keeps accelerating but without much force and then roughly after 3.5k it goes like a rocket ship...seriously so fast and much more so than OTS. Think of what I'm describing as traction control kicking in severely but, what I am experiencing is all with traction control switched off. I believe that this is timing pull to keep the engine safe? The turbos now boost to around 18psi and I'm wondering if perhaps at certain points in the rev range that this is too much causing the 'power cut' that I'm getting. What do you think? We've been through around 10 maps I'd say with the last two being total start agains. These last two maps are MUCH better but the issue still persists in places. Has anyone had anything similar? Log some pulls with the Cobb. Contact the people who did your protune, show them your logs.
From what you're describing it does sound like timing is being pulled. Might be short of fuel or bad spark.

I've been logging with every map, everything from normal driving to WOT. Last service was 3k ago with new plugs and I have no misfires or codes.
Injectors replaced under warranty at 25k Hpfp and lpfp replaced at 32k. Could crappy coils be doing this, even without any other faults? I'd expect a misfire at least. |

If it's coils then then you would think that the more load that was put on the car, the worse the problem would become, you're saying it's got a flat spot, then gets better. It pulls fine to higher revs? Doesn't sound like coils Does the car run better on one of the OTS maps, or does it do the same thing on the OTS maps?

Yes, they do. But still we cannot seem
to rectify it totally. It appears to be torque induced timing pull not helped by a sensitive timing curve. My car seems way too happy to overshoot the power. Totally right, it's a flat spot so to speak and then goes so hard all the way to redline. There's no issues with the OTS maps at all but I suspect that's due to a very conservative timing curve and lower boost pressure. |

I'll post some logs up here of the latest runs as soon as I can.
I'm working with PTF, but it's hard for them to help me fully as I'm on the other side of the globe (well, far enough away anyway) so, I'm hoping to lend a hand from info gleaned from you guys as honestly I feel bad and useless not being able to help more. I'm hoping that there's something I can do my end but I can't find any hardware issues. I'd love to be able to take it to them so they could experience the issue but that's an impossibility. PTF really couldn't have been any better, I sent them all the logs and I'm sure we'll get there. Just thought I'd throw my issue out there but I'll definitely try e90post, thanks .
I might make a video clip of the issue as it's really evident from the speedo when timing stops pulling. |

Put some logs up on Datazap so we can have a look.
Also what's the responsiveness of PTF been like for you? |

I've had some good response over on the e90 board, people with my problem . It appears to be that the torque limiters need to be raised and I'm working with PTF on this. PTF have been great throughout this, never leaving me hanging so I can't recommend them enough. The responsiveness is fantastic, but you can have the throttle mapped however you like. Even with the timing pull the car is so much faster than OTS in terms of speed reached by a certain point. |

Good to hear you are happy.
I more meant how responsive have the people at PTF been. I find I have to chase them a fair bit. |

Ohhhh, whoops .
They're a very busy company so on the odd occasion it takes a few days to sort a map for you but generally, throughout my problem I've had a new map to try within 48hrs once I've alerted any issues to them. I hear that they've just closed a group buy on tunes for e90post so I expect they're working through the backlog...and my car which won't seem to go away. |
