..::PSI::.. aFe Intake for 1M!! Installed pics at the shop

Anyone looking for a great intake for their 1M should definitely take a look at the aFe stuff. It's very impressive fit and finish; OEM quality! Definitely something you would expect to see when you open your hood on your 1M.

This unit we did was the Stage 2-Si.

Let us know if you're looking for that extra bit of horsepower! We can get any and all aFe products!

Looks great, and I like the closed design, I am definitely not a believer in open/exposed filters, so this answers the call.

Does it have a secondary inlet similar to the Dinan CAI? Install fairly easy? TIA!

Installation is a breeze! What do you mean by secondary air inlet?

Sorry, let me clarify. The Dinan design is pretty neat as they incorporate a secondary intake tube that captures cool air from the lower grill. Here is the description (this is for the 135i but they are coming out with a revised one for the 1M, as this won't work given the extra cooling hardware in the 1M).

Ok, I understand. The AFE does not incorporate this design feature. While I must admit, it is pretty cool, I'm not sure it's over $1000.00 cooler.

Indeed, typical Dinan pricing. And this is the 135i version, the 1///M is expected to be pricier. In their defense it is all carbon fiber, but still tough to justify.

Nice... and as you said, easy install.

Definately increased throttle response.

Is there a reason why your AFE log is upside down on the air box lid?.

I myself replaced the logo with something more appropriate as it still has the AFE log on the side outlet, and now gives it more of that OEM look IMO.

Did it increase power at all? Or change the sound of the car?

Throttle response down low is deffinately sharper, with more power in the higher rev range above 4.5K rpm.

Sound doesn't change at all down low but slight increase again above 4.5K rpm band.

Also, I noticed it took the car about 100kms to adapt to the AFE CAI, before any noticable change.

Zuzu. . .can you believe, that is how this particular intake came right out of the box?? With the logo upside-down!

I'm sure we can peel it off carefully and put it right side up.
