Buying a used 135i

I recently came across a used 135i with 56k miles and after wanting one for over a year now I decided I will be going to take a look at it Wednesday. It is a 2009 and with the mileage being 56k it does raise a little concern. Currently a local BMW dealer has it and is replacing the brakes and doing the complete run through on it before the dealership takes it in. the price is 26k and it has the red/black interior, manual trans and M package. Although I have not seen it in person yet, so far it physically looks really good. What else should I be looking for on this car before making any decisions? Is it a good candidate or should I pass on it?

Is the BMW dealer giving it the CPO certification. Since its a stick with the M package I doubt if it was driven just to church on Sunday morning. Buying any BMW out of warranty takes a very brave (or very, very rich) driver. For me, I wouldn't even think of buying any BMW that doesn't have a full warranty and even better the new car full maintainance program. The cost of parts, repairs and service is just too expensive.

I would offer 20-23k tops for that kind of mileage. I bought an 09 CPO sport pkg convertible last year with less than 10k miles for 30k. 56k is heavy mileage imo especially if the oil changes were only every 15k miles. I know it's not an old car but all that mileage is a huge strike against it.

If they give it a CPO I'd be all over it if it was clean.

That's a strange assumption. In reality, the car was more than likely owned by someone with a good job and a long commute. You don't rack up that type of mileage doing track days and autox. I have a manual with the M Sport package and I drive my car to and from work and for the occasional long road trip. I did the same thing with my Lotus Exige. Just because someone owns a gun doesn't mean they use it for murder.

I will try to find out if they give it CPO status, that would probably make me feel more comfortable. I drive an S2000 now and basically I need something more practical, but still have performance.

If you're thinking about having the dealer work on the car check out this worksheet:

I bought an 08 with similar miles with no warranty. Just don't take it to the dealer.

Dont worry if it is not CPO'd, that will increase the sale price. Take the car to an independent shop for a pre-purchase inspection, and if this dealer will not allow this then walk-away. The price is a bit high for the miles...expand your search to out of state if you really want a 1'er.
