I double-checked, the 3-series 'vert does have a split folding back seat. It still only has the pass-through, but the rear seatbacks fold flat to form a parcel shelf of sorts. I thought I remembered this from the 328i 'vert loaner I had recently, but couldn't remember for sure so I checked BMW's website.

I don't know if every vert owner has done this, but on the first weekend I owned mine I did it, and it took me about 15 minutes to figure out why the top wouldn't go down! When I finally figured it out, I felt like a big idiot. But, this is my first convertible, so I guess I can excuse myself.

Well, I guess with the 10 years I rode a motorcycle before I bought the vert made me not care about the radio that much since I wasn't listening to a radio while riding. So, actually hearing a stereo at all with the top down is a bonus to me!

Here's a view of the rear seat removed
I had to remove the seat to install the Smarttop module I have an 08 135i vert with the "passthrough" feature Here you can see one of the headrest activation mechanism tubes |
