TIAL BOV

I just switched out my old chargepipe setup to CP-E chargepipe with a Tial BOV. Got it all installed and I tested it by reving the engine a bit. I didn't hear any blow off sound that I usually hear. I used to have the HKS and it would easily blow off by reving. I tried out some light driving, down the block and back, still nothing. Im not sure If the Tial needs alot of boost to open or if mine is broken. I pulled the BOV off and pressed the valve with my fingers and it is super hard to get it to open. Any ideas?

If I'm not mistaken and I may be. Tial have springs. The stiffness can have something to do with it. Maybe go with a less stiff spring?

Yes it does but this kit is for the N54 engine so wouldn't it come with the correct spring for my car?

This spring that comes with it is good for 11 PSI. So light driving and revs wont open it. Gonna do another test run and see if it opens with 11 PSI or more.

I would assume so. Again I'm no bov expert. I just know you can by varying springs stiffness for them

What spring do you have in it

Look on the box that the tial came in. See what spring is in it. Yes since it's a kit, it should have the right spring. But mistakes happen.

While you're at it, check the vacuum hose that goes to it(connections, etc). Also make sure you have the 2 crush washers at the tials nipple, and it's tight

I can rev mine and hear the tial.

Good luck

Yea it has the unpainted spring which is for 11psi to -22 in/hg. Everything else is good.

I don't hear mine when stationary and just revving the engine. Only hear it the most when I'm in motion; and never really hear it at all in 1st. 2nd at about 2800rpms I give it quick gas and shift quickly and I hear it pretty well when windows are down. I barely hear it regardless with windows up.

This basically sums up my experiences with my Tial BOV and ER chargepipe. I wouldn't describe the Tial BOV as a really loud BOV but it is easily heard when driving with the windows down with the car tuned and in stock form.

I'm on my mobile so I may be missing it, but do you have JB4, COBB, etc? If so log your car at idle. I'd be interested what your car is pulling vacuum wise, at idle. Off the top of my head I don't remember what our cars pull, but the spring is chosen in direct relation to vacuum at idle.
All N54s will be similar, within spec, hence how the companies come up with the "kits" for our cars.
You could then compare your spring rate to what your idle vac is.

I'm trying to find the box/paperwork that came with mine. Only difference is I have the ETS pipe.

No need to do logs Todd, I have a boost gauge and It idles at -20. Spring is rated at -22. I just think the spring is a tad bit to stiff but I could be wrong.

Is the tial a good BOV to run with stock boost levels? I just ordered the tial and ER chargepipe for mine. Interested to see sound performance improvements over my current setup

N54s use MAP sensors so you can run BOVs with any mods you want, or conversely no other mods at all. ER+Tial will work as well on a bone stock 1 as a FBO 1.

I doubt it would be bad but it wouldn't really be that beneficial either.

The stock CP and DVs should be more than sufficient to run stock levels of boost.

I've heard that the stock DVs can leak on higher levels of boost but then I've already read that the Forge DVs also leaked too. I've also heard that the stock DVs are more than capable of handling high levels of boost. Who really knows

I've Tial BOVs on my car ( not my choice as the car was purchased with them already installed) and they definitely are audible almost all of the time I lift off the accelerator even at low levels of boost however as far as I can tell from inside the car they're not obnoxiously "fully-sick" loud.

Oh yea I know its map. I just didn't know if stock boost was enough to overcome spring pressure of the tial and prevent compressor surge. After all that is the BOVs job lol. I'm running the Greddy S now and it works ok, reason I'm changing over to the ER is because the flange style is discontinued and I fear I may be leaking boost at the throttle body due to bad fitment

I'm not looking for power gains from my BOV or CP. I'm chasing down a boost leak. And yea I read a lot of people are having leak problems with forge dvs which made me change to the Tial, which got great reviews

Tial's won't normally "blow off" while revving the car, at least that is my experience. You might want to do one thing. Check and see what direction the nipple for the vaccum hose is pointed to. The cylinder for that nipple is inside another internal cylinder that might block the vaccum. It happened to me once and I blew off my CP under mid level boost (10psi). After that was adjusted, I have not had any issues at all.

I'd imagine it will work just fine on the stock mapping

And good decision going with a C-Clip style chargepipe, the silicone throttle body connection on some pipes just seems troublesome
