i thought the m3 mcp/z4m rotors are 2 piece?

they are even reporting problems for the RB 2 piece rotors..

One concern I have with the mentioned e9x adapter mod is that our calliper have such a narrow slot, would it even fit a m3 rotor? Even if it does, how about a 2 piece rotor at m3 sizing?

The calipers actually have a fairly wide slot in them. RB rotors are thicker than the stock rotors by 3mm and fit with room to spare. M3 rotor isn't any wider than the RB rotors. The m3 rotors are a floating rotor...having it be a 2 piece rotor wouldn't do much unless you were able to get a lighter hat.

Hmm. I thought there was trouble even fitting the RB 135i rotors (345 x 28) in the 135i calipers if one is to use Ti shims? Here's the data I have gathered

135i OEM: 338 x 26
135i RB: 338 x 28
E46 MCP/Z4M OEM: 345 x 28
E9X M3 OEM: 360 x 30

So it'd sound to me that if one wants to run shims, the max is ~28mm rotors. If one is to go for 30mm rotors, at the very minimum the shims would need to be given up? I guess with massive enough rotors, we trust that heat dissipation would be sufficient that the shims would no longer be needed? Otherwise, I much rather to have some brake fade (by going with a smaller rotor but with shims) than to need a caliper rebuild...

You can run the shims if you just file off a bit of pad material from the new pads. But who said we should keep the crappy 135 caliper? Why not go with something that can run a 34mm x 360mm rotor?

IMO 28mm is the maximum for the caliper.

I thought the idea is to keep the supposingly reasonably competent 135i 6 pot calipers but solve the heat problem with upgraded rotors?

I thought the M3 Competition/Z4M rotors are 2 piece floating w/ aluminum hat? Only issue I see with them are cross drilling being possiby less reliable?

7mm is somewhat of a let down, but it seems that's the biggest we can go without upgrading the caliper also $$$.

As such, I think I'm still interested in those DieselBoost adapters.

The 135 calipers aren't very competent...they don't dissipate heat very fast at all and don't seem to apply even pressure. The pressure issue is most likely due to the fact you cannot bleed both sides of the piston banks. Some air gets trapped in there.

Having just removed my OEM 135i BMW performance cross drilled front rotors due to pretty severe cracking across the holes, I can vouch for the lack of reliability. Car was tracked a few times, but I'd only used just over half of the original pads before I noticed the cracking. I never touch the brakes on any of the cool down laps to try and prevent this too.

A member on here and a good friend of mine was able to get his hands on one of those adapters for testing purposes. He took it to a couple fab shops to get quotes about getting it copied. They told him it'd be something like $4-500 bucks to make out of aluminum.
