This is what worries me. I plan on keeping my E82 essentially indefinitely, but between the yards of wiring harnesses and the numerous computer modules spread throughout the vehicle, I'm afraid the electronics will shit the bed long before a major mechanical failure.

I hope ours holds out that long too. So far, at a shade over 40K miles, we've only had the Valvetronic/VANOS eccentric shaft sensor failure (out of warranty, of course). Of the 2 E46 cars I owned, one of which was nearking 60K when traded, I only saw the sparkplug coils fail due to a design flaw - they were replaced at no cost. Guess we'll see how this generation holds up.

I'm not worried about the car imploding and as I've said many times on this board once you own it outright just save some money for maintenance or repairs. Still likely to be cheaper throughout the year than a new car and monthly payments. Hopefully I'm not proven wrong but so far so good. Besides, you can't buy this experience new anymore anyways.
