SSTT Question

Hi everyone.. i moved my post here, it look like there lot more peoples in this thread....

First, i'm from Montreal Canada and i'm french.. so sorry for my english!

I'm planning to bring my car (135I) at the dealer for maintenance. and i have a SSTT on my car.. i know on many site they said that when you removed it, you won't have any code or any sign that you have it. so the dealer can't know that you actually have one.... Is it really true or i will have a check engine or any hide code that BMW can find ??

Thank you very much..

Rick

The SSTT caused a tampering code on my car, and I was denied a claim. Your best bet is to remove it and use the BT scan tool to check for codes.

I was also running catless downpipes when the code was set, but it's possible it was there before those were installed. Better to be safe and check the car first.

Random missfire, reduced power warning coming on, with and without the SSTT in place.

Just scanned my car after 16,000 miles with SSTT and no tuner codes.

Only code was an un-related code due to my oil level sensor pulling a wobly as I idled on a steep incline just after the car was started. The car asked me to add 1 qrt of oil and then 20 minutes later said I was full-up! I'll be asking the dealer to check this out next service.

I'm not really sure. It only happened on long trips, so I removed the SSTT, bought a scan tool and was planning on diagnosing it myself. I saw it once again, and it was giving me a Cylinder 2 missfire, or something like that. Shortly after that I installed a JB3 on the car, and I haven't seen it since. I honestly can't explain it.

I thought for sure I had a fuel pump (possibly low pressure) going bad, but the problem hasn't reoccured in at least 12k miles and 7 months.

The problem is when you take your car in service without clearing all warranty codes, the dealer will instantly noticed that you have an ECU tune on and some dealers will give you a hard time on this.

So, always scan and remove all warranty codes before taking your car in for a service. If you owned a JB3, re-set it to stock mode which will ensure the dealer will found nothing unless they spend extra time to open up the ECU box to look for physical evidence, but why they would want to do that; unless your CA get mad at you.

Thank for all the reply..

i just removed my SSTT and went for a drive.. no sign of check engine for now!! so hope for the best!!

but now.. i wonder, when they said that you to the change or install the SSTT when the car is in a sleep mode.. Maybe like that, the car don't see any change ??

But just to be sure. i will try to find a shop who can check for any codes..i'll let you know next week what happen.. so like that, i may help some of you

And holy!! it was not that easy to removed.. The Filter box was a pain to removed and thank to my little hand to be able to enter that tiny space..

Thank you again..

..

Just so you're aware, the tampering codes don't turn on the check engine light.

Just curious whether the actual act of using the BT cable will register in the ECU somewhere that it has been accessed?

Anyone have any ideas about this.

Also, is there any particular order that we are supposed to disconnect the BT cable and shut down the BT software on our lap-tops to ovoid detection?

Mad.

SSTT doesn't always cause codes.

It did on my car previously, but in the last 3000 miles no SSTT related codes.

Having said that there is NO WAY I would take my car to the dealer having had an SSTT or JB3 without checking the ECU with a BT scanner.
