how hard is it to access the hpfp on an n55?

if i was going to have bmw or my shop open up the engine to replace the vanos bolts, would the hpfp be exposed for easy replacement?

#1 Why do you need the vanos bolts replaced? N55 recall for vanos units is not active yet and they will likely replace the complete units... not just the bolts.

#2 No, the high pressure fuel pump is not exposed during removal of the valve cover for vanos unit removal.

Great pictures and info!

That is the stock HPFP on all N54's and N55's up until 03/12 where they switched to a plunger style HPFP. That particular HPFP pictured is also an older rev as it doesn't have the magnet.

There is almost zero overlap between these two jobs.

To access the older Continental HPFP you just need to take off the throttle body and charge pipe. For the newer Bosch pump you'll need to remove the intake manifold. I'm guessing your car is older if you're considering this at all. Is there anything wrong with your HPFP?

great, thanks. if there was overlap, i was gonna have bmw do the vanos recall repair when they were at it..

and yeah the hpfp went. 2011 n55 with 70k. so there's another confirmed hpfp failure on an n55.
