Sometimes engine revs unclutched during M-mode shifting?

Recently I've noticed while driving in M-Mode, that occasionally when shifting, the gear will declutch, but the throttle is still being sent to the engine for a split second. What you get is an occasional rev that goes a few hundred RPMs higher than where you were at when you clicked the shift button. Similar to if you tried to shift a MT without releasing the throttle during shifting.

Is this a common issue? Harmless software glitch, or indicative of potential upcoming hardware issues?

Hmmm. You know, I've never had that problem, but then again, if you clutch has no software, your clutch won't do funny software stuff...

I've seen it happen in both situations, but it's not terribly common either way.

Torque converter/ transmission slip. Fluid/filter change may be needed. Each gear's clutch pack is slipping when engaged.

Hmm... I just had a trans flush and filter replacement a few months ago when the trans gasket started to leak. At 58k miles it seems a little early to suspect the Trans itself starting to go. Maybe the fluid wasn't the best kind to use?

AT doesn't have a clutch, it has a torque converter.

Do you know how an automatic transmission works? Each gear has a wet clutch pack, made up of "steels" and friction discs. The more steels and friction discs, the quicker the shift, and more torque holding capability. When the friction discs get worn out, or the fluid is too low, they can slip, overheat, and burn up. Typically noticed first when the transmission is trying to change gears. The friction discs and steels will slip when torque is applied, until they catch. That momentary slip is noticed as a short blip in the rpms during gear change. I'm not saying the transmission is failing, but if the
Fluid is low, too hot, or the wrong type, it can cause these gear packs to slip.
