As the snow began to fall this morning, a BMW skidded into a livery cab at the intersection of 10th Avenue in Inwood, police said. But it's what happened after the crash that is puzzling the NYPD.

From the New York Post:

The BMW's driver tried to back his car away from the crash. But unable to get any traction in the snow, he jumped out of the car and fled on foot. When cops arrived, they noticed the BMW's rear seat had been pulled up. So they pulled the seat all the way out, and saw a man tied up in the trunk. The man, who was unconscious, had head trauma, said police sources.
The man was taken to Harlem Hospital and is listed in stable condition as of Wednesday afternoon.

He hasn't spoken with police, so the cops will have to fingerprint him to learn his identity.

Daily Intel made a good point: it appears that for once the unplowed, snowy streets actually saved someone's life.

The details have become hard to stomach.

Yesterday, cops found a man bound and gagged inside the trunk of a BMW M3at the site of a hit-and-run. Now the Daily News reports that police sources found "the bloody remains of one of his ears dangling from his head."

Police also said they have identified the driver of the BMW.

The driver, who goes by the name of Blake, slammed the luxury sedan into a livery cab after running a red light on snow-covered Dyckman St., near an exit for the Harlem River Drive, the sources said.
The cabbie, Muntaru Iddrisu, 47, said the suspect tried to flee the crash by making a U-turn, but got stuck in the snow. Iddrisu said the suspect, whom he described as black and wearing black jeans and a black jacket, got out of the car and asked if he was okay.




When police found the man in the trunk, who they refuse to name, he was unconscious. His head was sliced with a knife and he had been beaten so badly that his neck was broken, police said.

He is in Harlem Hospital in critical condition, breathing through a respirator.

The suspect is still at large. Iddrisu said he hopes authorities find the suspect soon, so he can stop worrying about his safety.

"This is New York, anything can happen," Iddrisu said.

A fender bender between two cars in Manhattan led police to a grisly discovery Wednesday: a man who was bound and unconscious with a serious head wound in the trunk of one of the vehicles, authorities said.

Police arrived at the corner of 10th Avenue and Dyckman Street in Inwood, near the exit ramp from the Harlem River Drive, at about 9:10 a.m. after a livery taxi driver called 911 reporting he had been rear-ended by a late-model electric-blue BMW M3, a law-enforcement official with knowledge of the case said.

The driver of the BMW stopped briefly and argued with the livery driver, and then fled on foot, the official said.

Responding officers noticed what appeared to be a bullet hole near the trunk of the high-end sports car.

They opened the trunk where they discovered the man unconscious but alive with the head wound, the official said.

The man was wearing sweatpants but carried no identification.

According to the official, the injury to the man's head appeared deep but it was unclear how it was inflicted. A preliminary investigation showed the injury appeared to be a stab wound, the official said.

The rear seat of the BMW also appeared to be pushed forward, leading investigators to believe the victim may have struggled to free himself from inside the trunk before passing out, the official said. It wasn't immediately clear how he was tied up and with what type of binding.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Harlem Hospital where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

The official said the wound didn't appear to be life-threatening and police were waiting for him to regain consciousness in order to interview him and try to figure how he ended up wounded in a car trunk.

Police were still searching for the driver of the BMW late Wednesday. Even though the license plate and registration don't match each other, police suspect the vehicle belongs to the man found in the trunk.

When new, BMW M3's are valued at about $56,000.

There have been people gunned down in Times Sq for the love of Pete. It's a big city - there are going to be issues in every neighborhood but you've gotta keep your head on a swivel.

So basically if you drive an M3 your are fucked. Someone is going to steal your car and cut your ear off. I never saw that in any of the BMW commercials or adverts. There should be a warning on them now, saying.."Warning this car will illicit great jealousy from those that do not own one, and they will try to steal it, and put you in the trunk with your ears cut off"!

That may hurt sales though.

agreed. especially given the public transportation system and how effective it is in transporting perps around NYC.

have you ever seen times square late on a friday night? Filled with bloods and other assorted gangmembers/scumbags. Do you honestly believe these folks live in midtown? I bet they all walked over from Murray Hill.

i think BMW should put an option as part of the competition package for M3 " Hand gun each sold separately." M-16 only available for "Special customer" if they wanna custom installation inside the truck.
