New Engine Noise (N55)

Hi guys -

I noticed a new engine noise after doing a fair bit of driving in warm (30C) weather today. When I parked at home and turned off "Max A/C", I notice this extra noise and managed to hear two cycles of it before the engine idle lowered and the noise when away.

The noise starts at 00:06 and lasts 11 seconds, the again at 00:29 and last another 11 seconds.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Bryan

Hi again -

For clarity, the noise is most noticeable near the front, passenger (right) side of the engine. I'd appreciate any thoughts on what the noise might be and whether it's something I need to worry about. FYI, the car has just over 20,000km on it and is due for a low-mileage, annual oil change later this month.

Cheers,
Bryan

I've never heard that sound before. I'll pay more attention next time I drive it.

Haven't heard that sound myself, but given it's off and on nature, I'm curious as to if it's maybe related to the rad fan turning on and off? also, maybe a bad serpentine belt or pulley?

I'd let it run for a bit and try to trace the noise.

A/C clutch or compressor. Since it goes off and on, that would be my guess. Your A/C system may need oil. It's added through the low pressure side

Thanks for the feedback - that's basically where my head was at after doing as much reading online as I could.

Do you have any other info, or could you point me in the right direction, on lubricating the A/C compressor / clutch (i.e. adding oil to the low pressure side)?

Cheers,
Bryan
