Those slightly pesky mudflaps

Hi Everyone - just joined; my cars are in the album. I'm over here in the UK, and we had an embarrasing bit of difficulty fitting front 1 Series mudflaps to my 2010 1 Coupe MSport - we couldn't easily integrate them with the front wheelarch liners - couldn't even get anywhere near a fit! I know the dealer computer says they won't fit, but that in practice it's supposed to be a case of a little tab that just needs trimming. These flaps I obtained seemed to indicate '07 manufacture - I wonder was this part of the problem? The part no. I obtained them on is (fronts) B82160309650. Did we do something wrong, or have we missed something? I'm assuming these fit over the front liners, basically just as those we easily fitted to our son's E46 the other day Cheers!

They are the right part for a 120d, but the sill covers are likely different with the M-sport package than the non M-sport. This part is explicitly shown as not fitting any car that has the M-sport or other aerodynamic add-ons:

When I put mud flaps on my 128i vert I used some holes already there but I drilled a few too. Not all the holes lined up. At home with lots of tools this was no big deal.

I had to trim a small piece from the mud flap where it contacted the gap between the fender and the skirt. They fit fine after that.

Thanks Aerobod, understood - although there's something a bit strange, in that one or two people have fitted them to MSport cars. Methinks there may have been a design tweak along the line! Sorry it's a bit of a boring subject - what on Earth is that spaceframe you have? Cheers

The space frame is an all aluminium mid-engined project car of my own design that I still haven't finished - basically haven't had any time over the past 3 years. It is powered by a 1.8 litres Mazda V6 which will be supercharged to about 200bhp, if things go according to plan. The whole car will weigh between 650 and 700kg when finished. The suspension is my own design with very long wishbones that fit around the engine at the rear, allowing negative camber up to about 1.5g, if I can get enough downforce. It is currently a rolling chassis, waiting for wiring and body panels. Still needs another 1000 or so hours of work to finish.

Good luck with that spaceframe, aerobod - that would not only be a nice lightweight racer, but with such a sweet power delivery from that particular engine, it should go in an enjoyable manner too. Hope you find time to finish before too long! Cheers, eilbebach

post pics when you get it done. I want to do mudflaps too, as long as they dont interfere with wheel fitment on lowered cars.

Thanks m-t; to be honest, I think we either got the wrong parts, or Numptied last time! You know the one...hey, let's fit the rear ones to the front, or something! Surely we can't be that daft - we did rebuild the suspension on my E36 328C, shown in my album to Alpina spec. Hopefully not dementia since then!! Cheers, eilbebach

No problem bud, will do that in next 3 weeks. I won't forget, as I just can't get those wheels out of my head! ..Mega. BTW, after I fitted the Alpina suspension to my E36 328C, I had to take the flaps off twice to give them a haircut, otherwise I was having to creep around corners to stop this scraping noise being amplified through the front outer wings as soundboards!! Cheers, eilbebach

Thanks J-H. I think we're the only ones who couldn't perform this ridiculously simple task with only miniscule modification! I think we did somehow get the wrong parts. It was almost like we were offering up ones from a Honda or something! Or Z4 rubber moulded rear floor mats, perhaps!! Cheers, eilbebach

Hate to break it to ya, those mudflaps will do more harm then good. Just wait when you go to remove them down the road.
Ask me how i know......

Hi ezeedee, ‘Sorry didn’t reply re mudflaps - never got around to fitting. ‘Reason is, the 120d had a few probs and the dealer refunded me. Perhaps it’s reading all these sorts of posts, or even the effects of those pink wheels - I don't know, but my wife and I are off up to Scotland this week to check out and hopefully buy a 135! Excited! N54; 2010. I think it's a good thing. Cheers
