Need advice on Track Wheel and tire setup

Hey Guys,

I have an 08 135i and I'm planning to buy a dedicated tire/wheel setup for the track. Ive heard and read lots of good things about going square rather that staggered.

The wheels I'm looking at are 18x9 et42 and 18x9 et30. I was thinking of running RS-3s 245/40R18.

I am currently lowered and have the M3 control arms in the front, with 12mm spacers and 15mm spacers in rear. Everything else is stock.

Will I experience any rubbing issues?
Will I need to roll fenders?

Thanks,

Alex

I'm not an expert at all but i think 30mm offset is gonna fit neither front or rear without major fender surgery. Also why do you want to go with 9'' wide if you only put 245's?

You'll rub in the front and the wheels wont fit the rear at all. That setup is totally wrong. You will not only need to roll the fenders, you'll need to cut the stock ones off and weld up new ones.

If you're looking at track wheels, there's no other starting point than the Apex Arc 8's. At BMW days in norcal you see over 50% of people running them now on all variants of BMWs. It's an even higher percentage on 1 series are our fitment is unique.

You need to run a high offset in the rear for 9" wide wheels to fit (aka ET50-63)

For the front, you'll need alot of camber with a 5mm spacer.

I have ordered 17x8.5 ET40 squared and will be running 245 tires.

As you add spacers, your offset decreases.

So, a ET35 with a 12mm spacer would be ET23

got it.

So in this case 18x8 et35 without spacers would be quite close to what i currently run in terms of fitment (front offset 49-12mm spacer = et37, rear offset 52-15mm spacer= et37).

I currently dont have any rubbing at all, so I imagine it would be the same with an 18x8 et35 setup?

The RS-3 tires will be quite a lot wider than the stock runflats (assuming that's what you are using now). Its like going up by a tire size or two. Ideally you should look at offsets around ET45 and some camber too. Kgolf has a good idea to get 17x8.5" wheels. Even those may need rolled guards if you fit a more track focussed 245 tire at ET40 offset.
