I bought this when they first came out (v1) after i mailed it in for the latest firmware it came back and the mirrors folding in and out is never consistent. Sometimes popping the trunk will fold the mirrors down and then unlocking the door will fold them back up. other times unlocking the car wont fold them down. sometimes i even come out and the mirrors are folded down yet I watched them fold up when i locked the car.

The mirror switch is a momentary switch - there is no on or off. Pressing the lock button 2x will fold in/out the mirrors depending on current position.

There is also autofold and with the latest firmware, integration with Comfort Access.

Haha I guess you did get me there jurrian! I was just worried since it's with electronics.

So no matter what when you press unlock twice your mirrors fold in/out? That kinda sucks since I press unlock once if its just me to unlock just the driver side and twice if i have passengers and I hardly ever fold my mirrors so once getting in my car and having to unfold them will get annoying.

You have your choice of settings:

- Setting 1 will fold the mirrors in automatically when locking the car and unfold them when the driver's door is opened (Automatic with every LOCK).
- Setting 2 will fold the mirrors in when either the round lock button on the remote or the "lock" surface on the touch door handles is tapped twice within 5 seconds. Mirrors will fold out when the driver's door is opened (Manual with quick double-tap on LOCK).
- Setting 3 will allow mirrors to fold out immediately when the car is unlocked (Like AUTO but unfold on unlock).
- Setting 3 will allow mirrors to fold out immediately when the car is unlocked (Like MANUAL but unfold on unlock).

Probably more options than needed, but should suit everyone's needs.

Got ya Tom, I think setting 2 would be for me then.

Some more Q's, can I paint the buzzer black to make it blend in more with the engine bay? If so, with what? I'm a little ocd about things like that lol. And finally what could I wrap the buzzers wire in to make it black to also blend in? Thanks!

Absolutely - those are simply cosmetic mods.

Is there a model of this mod that doesn't come with the alarm emulation? It seems the install would be shorter, and less parts.

I ask because i have already installed factory alarm so I have no need for this feature.

Also: to hansenc's post - have you solved his issues? can he be asked to do a follow up post confirming that his is working?

I mostly just want this entire product for automatic mirror folding when the car is locked. Why bmw didn't make that a stock option is beyond me.

thx.

The LED or piezo buzzer does not need to be installed if you do not need alarm emulation. This would turn a normally 45 minute installation into a 10 minute one.

Thinking about getting your SmartTOP module, but would also like the clown nose and confirmation chirp... any easy way to add that to the smarttop module? Or would I need to get both modules?

You would need both modules as that is a feature from the remoteKEY+, not the smartTOP.

ouch that's lots of overlap... one does the top and the other does the blink and chirp and they both do mirrors, windows, and door locks, but it sounds like the top functionality will trump the chirp and clown for me... If I was going to spend that much I might as well go for a real aftermarket alarm of some sort.

Nice. Can you guys cut me a few bucks off so I don't have to pay for the piezo buzzer or LED?

Also can you post a short version of the install so i can get an idea of what is involved and what is not?

Thx guys!
