BOV: Turbosmart Raceport vs. Synapse
I'm looking to purchase a BOV and would be lying if I said I didn't want some noise (JDM YO) when venting to the atmo hence why Tial is not on the list.
Synapse BOV I've had experience with synapse on n54 and they sound great but has questionable reliability from the last time I checked. Regardless, I can still source it direct from Synapse Engineering. Turbosmart Raceport BOV Have heard it on one n54 1er and it sounded odd - a short weird sound. Not sure if installation was incorrect but this bov was hyped up and didn't meet my expectation. If anyone has had experience from either BOVs or suggestions for others, please let me know Will most likely be pairing the bov with either a VRSF CP or COBB CP |

I've got the turbo smart dual ports, noise if you want it, and when you don't you just plug it. Bit more expensive to setup than a single though.

I was looking for diverters a few months ago and settled on Turbosmart Kompact plumb backs. These are recirculating only though.
Cheapest I could find on ebay was $430 for the pumb backs. The dual port ones (blowoff+recirculate adjustable) were around $500. With our crappy dollar I couldn't find anything cheaper. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Genui...Ajm792LJRLFztQ http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TURBOSMAR...oSEQGBijJpnBAg I have actually run the plumb back diverters as blow off valves. Spent $4 on 1" chair leg caps and blocked off the inlets. Removed the recirc hoses and just ran the diverters to atmosphere. Actually sounded pretty good, had it on for around 2 weeks and all my passengers loved the sound. The flanges for the silicone pipes are actually removable and you can replace it with a trumpet from Turbosmart if you wanted to. Have reverted back to recirc now though, just wanted to try it out temporarily. Personally I don't think I would like to run a BOV on my car all the time, the intake charge air is quite oily (its the reason why we need to walnut blast our cars). After running the BOV mod for 2 weeks I was already getting an oily buildup on the outlet

That's some interesting insight vtl - i remember doing a similar mod in my s15 to turn the plumb back into full atmo.
Wasn't aware of the oil build up issue from a venting bov on our n54s though! |

I'm happy with my HKS SSQIV bov, it's no where near as loud as people make it, especially if you already have an intake and exhaust

Heres a link to anyone whos interested
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/351445526404 I didn't bother putting hose clamps on them either, the inlets are under vacuum and not boost so they wont pop off. If you want the blow off sound the dual ports are the way to go. They'll sound better since they have trumpers and you can just turn it off with the knob whenever you feel like it. I wasn't too surprised with the oil build up really. When I'm taking cars apart for the walnut blasting I always see a lot of oily residue on the inside of the charge pipe and intake manifold. Worst is from the intercooler you can lean it on one side and you'll get a slow drip of oil. I might get around to flushing my intercooler with acetone sometime.

I've been running the Turbosmart RP for ages now, and no oily residue or oily intact tract..
I do have an OCC with upgraded RB valve and RB cover. |

It's probably worth talking to turbosmart directly - they're an Australian company after all. Purchase price of their products shouldn't really be effected by our weak dollar.

I did actually get them locally off ebay, what I meant was that I couldn't find any alternatives cheaper. Weak dollar would mean that any options from the USA are not worthwhile. The Forge DVs would have cost a bit more after shipping and conversion.

My ER charge pipe and Synapse BOV is for sale as I'm parting out. Never had any issues with the synapse and I personally think it sounds better than the Tial and HKS. Haven't heard the Turbosmart though. Also keep in mind the volume of the BOV is dependent on how much boost you are running. I found the synapse to be quiet on stock boost but it sounded a lot more aggressive when I was spraying meth... With a lot more boost

There's a guy in Coburg in Melbourne that's a auth Turbosmart reseller. He sells on eBay but will give you a better price direct if you and pickup. I can find the details of you need it, but from memory I got the dual ports for $450 ish.

I had the Tial on my 135i and quite liked the sound. Thought it would be a lot quieter than it actually was. I now have Turbosmart Dual Ports on my 1M and I originally wanted to vent to atmosphere but they really don't sound great. Now I run them recirculated.
I've heard the HKS and it is loud. If that's what you want, I would vote for that setup. |

I have both the tial and the turbo smart.
Personally I like both, power wise exactly the same. In the end its just the sound. the tial sounds riceier |

In the end they do the exactly the same thing, so which ever one is cheaper or which sounds best to you.
Oil them with machine oil every 5000k and they'll last you forever, just about. |

I've got the Raceport on my car now, at low boost its a "whoosh" type release of air. At higher boost levels it turns into a bit of a whistle, a bit HKS SSQV-esque
