Extended warranty
$4.5k for an extra 2yrs factory warranty on my 2012 1M, due to expire in April.
What do you think? Car has had no major issues since buying 3 years ago.

For it to be worthwhile you would need failure of major parts like the turbos, high pressure fuel pump, water pump, injectors etc. $4.5k would just about see the turbos replaced. I would check the fine print on the warranty coverage too.

How many kms on the car right now? Can't imagine such a new car giving over 4.5k worth of problems in the next couple years.

Just 20k. But 5-6 track events/year. Oil change every 5k.

You'll only get issues when the car gets older/higher kms, 20k is still a baby. My 135i is on 143000 and while I've had a few issues with it, they've all been reasoanbly cheap fixes (new plugs, coils, rubber water hose).
The only expensive thing I had was a worn clutch but that's a wear item thats never covered under warranty anyway. |

When tracking cars so many things can go wrong, as some of us found out
A busted piston will cost you a rebuild min of 6 to 7k A diff in the 1m is great but not bullet proof, one of the smaller things that will go wrong in between 40 to 80k can be Water pump and thermostat, hpfp, injectors, boost solenoids, turbos, charge pipe oil seals, rocker cover which are all covered under the extended warranty These are some of the things that can go wrong and most you won't get much change from 750 to 1k for each one |

Another added bonus to the extended warranty is resale.
I sold my 2011 1M, with 2 years left of the 3 years extended warranty.. Gave me the edge over the other 1M's on the market at the time. |

Thank you all for your thoughts. I have a couple of months to decide. Thinking I will probably go ahead with it.
On a separate note re number plates at track events: it's pretty easy to find entrant names in Natsoft.
