325xi - no steel wheels allowed!!!

Hey xDrive owners!!
I stopped by the dealer this morning to ask at the parts desk about steel wheels, and BMW Canada says NO STEEL WHEELS for the xi models. Apparently they heat the brakes up too much.

So now I'm shopping for budget priced (good looking)16" alloys!!!

Aw man, thats too bad, well I think tirerack offers some affordable alloy wheels, which would be good for a winter wheel application. I'm getting ready to put my steel wheels on for the winter, ugh, its so sad to look at

Tirerack has:

Sport Edition F6: 75$
Sport Edition E1: 89$
ASA JH3: 99$
Borbet Type CA: 125$
Mille Miglia MM11-3: 126$

I'd personally go with ASA because I know they make a good quality wheel, not to say the others don't, I just dont have experience with them.

I just ordered from Tiretrends the Sport Collection F6. It's cheap, $129 cdn, and it will fit the Dunlop M3 tires that I also ordered.

It's on tirerack too.

Best part about steel rims is that you can get em repaired for cheap if you get them damaged.

Hooooo doggy are alloy rims expensive to fix, chromed alloy even worse.

Ya, I thought that was what I would do but apparently BMW spec won't allow it....either that or they're trying to increase sales on expensive OEM rims???

Beats me, Stew. If you want, I can talk to my dealer and see if it is BS or not.

Whatever it is, I saw the actual memo that BMW Canada issued....anyway it really is a good excuse for me to pimp my ride a little and have it justified!!

For the benefit of researchers, I have steel wheels on my 2006 325i and my brakes have shown no sign of warping.

The German price list mentions the same thing. Steel wheels are only available for the 318i, 320i, (maybe the 323i as well), 325i, 318d, and 320d. They are not available for any 330 model, or the 325xi.

hmmmm....

Hope my US-spec 325 is okay.

Anyone know if my brakes are the same as the Euro-spec 325i?

Your 325 is okay with steel wheels, it's the xi that won't allow it.
