Yeah spoke with James this morning and no surprise neither aftermarket turbo company will deal with him. The new turbos from BMW have fixed the actuator rod to the wastegate so there should be less problems.

I have also done a ton of research and I just don;t think the aftermarket turbos being rebuilt on existing bad turbos are the way to go. It seems that there are people having problems with those too. Since this is my daily I just don't want to spend more money on labor should a part go bad. So I am going with OEM. Hey with software flash and some more upgrades this car will be more than fast enough for me.

Yeah I understand all that. My car hauls ASS with the tunes and stock turbos lol. What flash are you thinking of doing? I am very familiar with MHD flasher. Do you have a JB4 on the car? If you don't want to run JB4 for whatever reason, I'd still use MHD + the wedge tuning flashes for it. Better tune than all of the off the shelf cobb ones, and WAY cheaper in the long run. I'd be happy to help you out with the flashing if you want to go that route. Very nice tuning method.

Awesome thanks man. I am thinking of getting a COBB. I don't know enough about JB4, but I know it is cheaper. Since I am off of warranty whatever is easiest to tune would be the one I want.

MHD is just as easy as cobb. Perhaps even easier. The only differences are that instead of using a $$$$ piece of hardware, you use any android device that supports OTG (I have one) and a $25-100 cable (I have those too). You buy the app, buy the flash you want and it does it all in 20 minutes hands off. The other big difference is the off the shelf cobb maps really aren't great. The maps that come stock with MHD are literally just the same thing as getting a protune from Wedge Engineering. Better tune for half the price.

As for the JB4 you really only need to install it and then you pick a map via the steering wheel controls. If you want to do the JB4 route you can do a backend flash with the MHD program. Then you get the benefits of the flash tuning option AND all of the JB4 features and benefits.

If you wanted to just flash it and forget it, go MHD flash absolutely. I'm a JB4 fan clearly, but of the flashes the MHD flashes are not only the best, they also happen to be the cheapest.

Well the JB4 doesn't require a new tune etc. The MHD flash would eventually have a new tune if you go catless or Full Bolt Ons etc. But thats as simple as flash the "stage 2" or "stage 3" tune when that time comes.

And everyone should upgrade the chargepipe. Even stock turbos and stock tune you can have that POS fly off or crack lol.

Look into the Dinan stock turbos with the fixed wastegate, and the high output variety. Hexon also seems to make a good N54 stock frame turbo.

I couldn't go in there and replace it with a stock unit.

I couldn't either. If I already had to deal with that labor I'd make it worth it. But I had a jb4 waiting before I picked up the car, so I guess different strokes and all.

My car is going in for turbos right now actually. Getting new factory ones because its under 82k, then putting downpipes on. This will definitely be my final set of OEM turbos, if/when these die its something big!

First thing everyone should get, even on a stock car lol. They just plain suck from the factory. But no big deal and easyish install. Worth every penny.

look into hexon turbos as well. it's definitely a cheaper option than RB and will net you similar results.
