Brake Wear Sensor problem

I experienced a fault with my front brake wear sensor.

Yesterday, I experienced a service warning that I was
down to 0 miles and due for front brake service. Having
driven about 70 miles my service counter is now reading
nearly -400 miles.

After reading many post, I attempted to reset the service
indicator with no luck so I decided to inspect my sensor
and attempt to reconnect it as discussed by others.

I discovered that I have a broken wire but not sure were it
should connect to the back of the rotor. I have two sensors
in the drivers side front wheel well but the schematic only
show one sensor, which seem to be intact.

The car brakes fine and seem to have no other issues.

Please let me know what you all think.

In the first picture... that is your ABS sensor. The sensor is held down in place by a hex head bolt.

In the second photo... that looks like your brake pad sensor. looks like someone(a previous mechanic maybe (?) who did a brake job) just cut off the old pad sensor - and left those red and yellow wires hanging liek that. Not sure why he wouldn't have just unplugged the old sensor. ?

A new pad sensor will clip onto your brake pads, then the wire snakes out of the brake caliper and to a connector that up at that WHITE clip/bracket.

Dackel, Thank you, I will keep searching for a photo of a properly connected brake pad wear sensor, seems it was not replaced or has broken some how.

Not all pads have the spots to connect the sensor. I had that problem when I switched pads.

If you want to turn off the light, just strip those two wires, twist them together and perform brake light reset procedure (not sure what it is on e82, haven't done it yet).

(Tie them up too so they don't get tangled and ripped apart).

Caution: if you do this, *you* become responsible for checking brake pad thickness (not the car)

The sensor portion has clearly been ripped off (or a mechanic cut it).

Brake bad sensors include the whole wire (2-3 feet long) and the sensor that connects to the brakes (and wears down, when it gets too low, it brakes the circuit and triggers the light. Hence connecting the wires together will turn off the light).

I just watched a video of a brake change on an E92

, although the calipers are different, seems may last brake job they used the old wear sensor which has now broken. So I will have to replace it, may just replace pads up front on both sides.
