I read the manual, and it doesn't say anything about e90post.com or 2 yr old threads, or anything like that. The main subject seems to be about the car itself???
Anyway, thought it'd be interesting to see what people are thinking now that they've spent some time with their cars.

Honda is not investing heavily in that segment anymore. Look at the new S2000 CR, it is a joke.

Best up to date, as a car. Not necessarely the best 3-series up to date, as a BMW.
It handles much better than the E46. Nasty flaws; - RFT and absence of spare tires - absence of LSD (except M-cars), at least as an option - quality of dash material is subpar - absence of temp gauge on N52 cars, not to mention dipstick, but this one I don't mind. - rear end of E90 (fixed for 2009+) - N52 of the330i gone in North America... it was the best balanced engine, IMO. |

I guess it all depends on how you describe "best". Some might refer to the exterior styling, some the interior, some the technology and others the motor.
I think as technology in general evolves the next generation will always surpass the previous generation. The exterior styling is always going to be a love hate topic. |

Wait till the 2012 comes out I've liked all the renderings. You want a "True Sporting (non-M)BMW" get the 135.... Although, I'm going to graduate to the 5er next time around. Flame all you want, I want the space and it just carries more status. We all have to have goals and not rest on our laurels...as good as they might be.

E46.. despite being an e90 owner.
Yes the e90 has better performance, handling, toys etc. but the interior quality drops with each generation. The interior doesn't really look superior to a high-end Honda or VW, which is a shame given what the top 3-series cost. E46 feels much more luxurious, far less plastic, more metal. Hi-fi of the standard e90 is below e46, and far below E36. If you go to a 2nd-hand showroom, press on an e90 of a few years old's plastics on the dash, vents, trim, seat side cups etc. and it's very likely to creak. Open the doors from the inside and the panels/handles will be a bit loose, with accompanying sound. Close a door with the window open and it will be distinctly different to a new one. I predict in 10years the e90 interiors will be in worse condition than E46's, and the firm ride & RFT's will make it rattle even more. Of course this is common to all brands, Audi & Mercedes does it as well, cost-cutting to the extreme. Merc has taken it even further on especially its C-classes since the end of the 1990's, which is reflected in the aftersales feedback polls. As for the cockpit look.. the new shape compared to the curvy E46 is subjective, but I share Top Gear's opinion of it: "it's as straight as a piece of celery... and about just as interesting". The outside looks better than any previous generation, but the rear is a bit bland (almost like an old Civic), as is the hood. Both have been fixed in the LCI version though. Just my personal opinion, I expect a flame or two on it though |

This was some sort of board glitch, as you can tell if you click the quoted message. I think our 29.2 lag thread must have broken the Internet. And no, the e90 is not the best 3 yet. The e92 is.

I don't know since it depends on what's really important to you. E30 was very fun to drive. E36 was also fun to drive. E46 was less involving to drive (MY ZHP was sweet however). E90 it not as involving and it's just a tad too big on the outside.
