JB

Hi

Anyone with JB+ on their N55?

What Map is best? 1, 6, 0?

Whats the difference?

How do you update your firmware?

Hey Vans, you mean the JB stage 1 or the JB4 stage 2 for N55?

Go to N54tech.com and see the sticky's.

JB+ is Baaad.... The later DME firmwares don't work properly with it. Burger Tuning have (I believe) stopped making it for this reason...

I almost bought one ages back but found that my DME was too new and that I would have problems...

This was posted by Terry from BMS on the N54tech forums back in April last year:

Please Note if your car is updated to the latest ISTA 2.40.1 DME/ECU software the N55 JB+ will only give about 1/3 the gains seen with older DME versions. For those with this update or who plan to get the update we suggest the N55 Stage1 tuning instead which is not affected. There is no method to determine which software is loaded to your DME without consulting with your dealer.
I know I've read stuff in other threads about people throwing engine codes with the newer firmware but can't find them now.

Basically, if you have the newer Traction Control icon on the instrument panel then the JB+ is going to be almost useless. And although I have no first hand experience of it, some people have actually reported negative experiences.

Best bet is to talk to Terry.

Pretty sure Vans has the N55 Stage 1

I dont believe there is a RHD version of the N55 Stage 2 yet unless you modify it a little as the cable that powers it is too short (i.e. designed for LHD vehicles where the brake master cylinder is on the opposite side to us)

Also to answer your question/s Vans:

The unit should be preset to Map1: +3.5% boost over stock.
Map 0 = stock, and the other maps I'm not too sure...

To update firmware, download it here and then use the USB cable to upload it.
This post here explains how to upload if you aren't too familiar with the process

From Terry: "For those with the 2.40.1 and later BMW firmware you may adjust the "boost over stock" field up to 3.5psi on 91 octane, up to 4.5psi on 93 octane, and up to 6psi on race gas. Making these adjustments with the older BMW firmware will result in check engine lights and other unpleasantness. If after testing you determine you have the old DME software get it updated ASAP! "

Testing to see if you have the new DME or older requires a datalog, further instructions here

Goodluck.
