Any performance/power advantages with a quad exhaust over a dual exhaust
I know there are lots of threads on dual exhausts and quad exhausts, but are there really any power/perfomance gains with a quad exhaust? Do two more pipes give you anything else or is it really just "the look".

for teh exhausts that are currently on the market, it's just for looks. you may even get better performance from a single side exit exhaust.
i've heard rumors of a quad exhaust being released in spring time, that might be a better design. we'll have to wait and see. in the future, please use the general intake, exhaust, tune ETC thread for questions like this |

Quad on the 1 series is just for looks. There are no gains, I'd even say it's worse than running the regular dual setup because of the extra weight of the quad. The only reason two smaller pipes are used from the midpipes back is for space reasons. A single, wider pipe would be "taller" and be lower to the ground than two side-by-side pipes that are slightly smaller in diameter.

my recall from reading tuning theory on NA cars is that for best performance on a straight six a single exhaust pipe produces the most power because of the scavenging effects created by the pressure wave. Not sure to what extent this hold true with Turbo cars.

When people search for stuff, they're likely to display search results as threads, not posts. So if someone search's "Quad vs Dual Exhaust" it's a lot easier for someone to find a thread on it, rather than being told to look in some thread that has pages of useless (in the sense that, the person is only looking for exhaust info, not all other info about tuning the engine).

1 pipe per turbo is usually the best for flow. But with the N55 they wanted to not design as many new parts as possible so the single dp goes to the dual pipes. But for the OP. The quads on the 1 series are all looks as its just four pipes comming out of the muffler on the left side instead of just two like the normal 135. Those extra pipes only add weight and no nothing to increase flow. h |
