135i aFe Mach Force XP Cat-back Exhaust - Review

Review:

My car is completely stock, so this is my first mod. Installation is straight forward, no cutting or bending. Remove the OEM axleback, replace it with this one.

The moment you start the car, it comes to life with a nice grumble. It is noticeably louder than stock, but definitely not obnoxious. The first time I took the car on a drive, I fell in love with the exhaust. There is a little drone between 1800-2400 RPM. 2500 and above sounds very smooth. The drone is not very harsh, unless you are a very quiet type of person. Then again, if you are that type of a person, you wouldn't be driving a 135i.

Overall, I think this is a great exhaust. Also, it sounds very similar to the Performance Exhaust for a fraction of the price! Take a look at the video.

sounds pretty good!

it doesn't quite have the tone of the PE....and also doesn't have all the funky crackling and popping either. can't really complain for $325 though can you!

The video doesn't do complete justice to how the exhaust sounds outside. It does crack and pop a lot, just can't hear much of it in the video due to the crappy action camera sound recording ability.

Not trying to say its better than the performance exhaust, but it's 80% as good as the PE for a cheaper price. Also, the installation does not require cutting like the PE. Its a simple bolt-on, so when selling the car or wanting to go back stock, makes it easy to remove and sell. Just my .02 cents.

Wow, That is a good buy. I think the fleebay seller corrected his ad because the mufflers now start at $549.

Not sure where aFe builds their products. But the one I bought is an original aFe equipment, came with their paper work.

The guy I bought it from was selling only this one piece. He doesn't sell car equipment like the other sellers. So, I think that's where I got lucky.

I also just installed this cat back. didn't get quite as good of a deal as you but I am really pleased with the sound and build quality. I bought it directly from afe.

Yupp, definitely a good quality exhaust even at retail price.

Thanks! Has a nice grumble to it. I am loving it more day by day.

Haha definitely. After I get walnut blasting, transmission and diff fluid changes, intake will be next to make that engine sound and breathe better.

I am going for the Red Line D4 ATF for the tranny and 75W90 GL5 for the diff. Have heard great things about their products. Do you recommend anything better?

I know this is an old post. But i have a 2012 135i thats FBO with a catless DP and N55 mids. I just picked up the aFe axle back and all i have to say is BRUTAL. This is honestly one of the best sounding exhausts i have ever heard on any inline 6. the crackle and pop is out of this world. I am truly in love with it. there is a little drone on highway from 2400-3000 RPM but above that it is fine. The WOT sound is like an F1 car and the low RPM pulls and deceleration are deep like a cammed v8 almost. It is an incredible setup I have. way to go VRSF catless downpipes and aFe axle back.
