choice of 2 135i seat worries help a future owner out

Can anyone comment on the differences between the sport and non-sport seats?

ive only sat in the in sport seats and since the BMW i was looking at was sold out from under me I am back on the lookout.

Found 2 in Indy
1 is 2008 135 no sport pack. 20k in mi no M steering wheel and thus non-sports seats asking 25600

2 is 2009 at a carmax (so no haggling he 25998 price) 135 sport pack and seats 44k in mileage and had a front fender fender bender. report says minimum damage. need to get a better history on this accident

but one of the things i liked best were the seats.....should i give the no sport pack car a look? will i still like the seats?

All I know is on this forum lots of people complain about the non-sport seats.
I think I have the sport seats but I'm actually not sure. Either way they are fine.

Most complaints on sport seats come from ppl who are "on the heavy side". I have had the sport seats in my last several BMWs and they have been excellant. I don't see how you can wrong with the sport seats (unless you are obese).

IMO buying a BMW without sport package is a big mistake. I see it as a mistake someone new to BMW might make the first time but never again.

I fall into the category of making that mistake once, but never again. My current 09 135i does not have sport seats, and while I don't find them terrible (maybe because I'm not used to sport seats), after sitting in another BMW's sport seats, it made me realize what I was missing.

If you're not sold on the seats themselves, then consider the resale value. My car was recently appraised at $25,500, but I was told that if I'd had sport package, the offer would have been ~$28,000. A $2500 bump in value from a $1300 package? Sign me up.

so im getting the general consensus is that I go for the carmax car instead? even with the reported accident?

On another note anyone recognize this car from anyone on the forum?
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...nal&listType=1
its on the very high side of what i want to spend and high on mileage as its out of warranty...but the dealer informs me its got a full adjustable suspension(not sure on brand) and a dinan stage 2....this plus the wheels on the car are why the dealer has it listed higher. I mean i planned on putting a tune on whatever car I got but it would not have been a dinan tune. But the wheels and suspension are attactive...can i put a JB4 or COBB on top. should i not even bother with this one?

How long have you been looking and what's your search radius? It took me a few months and the car was 3 hrs away. IMO it's better to figure out exactly what colors/options/price you have to have then wait/be willing to travel for the right car.

I wouldn't buy the Carmax car TBH. I would try to find a private seller with the car still under warranty. My fully optioned 08 24k miles 6 speed black/black no accidents etc I paid $27k last year. Hope that helps.

I own two 1ers. My sport packaged 135 and my activeE. The E has the standard seats and the vert has sports seats.

Commuting in the E really highlights the fact that the standard seats are not comfortable. It's a mistake to not have them. I've taken 10 hour road trips in my sport seats and felt fantastic after while in my hour commute in the E I find myself shifting in the seat...I'm just unable to get comfortable in it

i am trying to be patient with finding what i want. Color doesnt much matter to me. I would rather not have a black one but its in no way a deal breaker.

I have been looking pretty much nationwide. The only reason I have been looking to dealers is I can trade my car in. Selling a 370z touring/sport has been harder than i thought...

I know I want a 135i with a 6spd and I guess after hearing a couple of comments I have to have the sport pack with the seats. Im really not crazy about idrive/nav but i dont really care. its not going to be something that will sway me away from a car.

I would like a little warranty just so i can have end of warrany check done and anything that needs replaced/fixed can be done under that. Other than that the 2 items people seem to have trouble with are covered under extended warranty. HPFP and the turbo wastegates...100k mi right?

That makes sense then since you are going to trade-in the Z. I Would recommend comfort access. It wasn't something I cared about but I'm really glad I ended up with. Nav is cool but I had the same opinion as you and could probably live without it. It is almost worth it for the ipod integration alone though. I might recommend talking to a rep at your local dealer. My friend is a sales rep and he said he could get a car sent from another dealer if I wanted it. They might be helpful. I didn't go through him though because I could get a better private deal.
And yes I believe they are covered to 100k.

It sounds like you really want the sport seats, so I would keep on looking for a car with all the options you want. I personally have the standard seats, and I think they are extremely comfortable, even on long trips. The longest trip I've taken so far is an 8 hour drive, and no complaints at all. I didn't want the sport package; there were other options more important to me. No regrets on my end, but if you really want the sport package, don't settle for one without it.

yes my Z has the equilivent of comfort access. My key fob doesnt ever leave my lanyard. I dont mind having to plug the thing in I guess but it is nice just getting in an pushing the start button....
can comfort access but installed aftermarket??
and as long as the car has bluetooth hands free. i love that feature on the Z too much to give up....

and any comments regarding that Dinan stage 2 car would be helpful. The guy seems eager to make a deal on the car.....the link for the car in posted above.
can i keep the stage 2 and simply add other mods like DCI and downpipe, maybe FMIC (this is as far as i will go....no meth for me) or should i just have someone wipe the tune and get a cobb or JB4 and do it myself.
As i understand the dinan tune stays with the VIN so I could resell it with that as a bonus??

the dinan tune is amazing - i had it on my car and its going to be on my new car as well (which ill have next week).

you can certainly add a DCI, DP, and FMIC without any issues.

I plan on adding an intake and possibly a FMIC in the future.

hope this helps

I did so on my first one, as you quoted, but since then they have all had M-Sport packages

Hey, I'm on the "heavy side," thank you very much. I have the sport seats, and would get them again.

So true...

My first BMW was a stripped down 1999 323i with hardly any options and no packages. Hey I was a broke 18 year old who saved up all his money for this car. The standard seats felt fine to me at the time because I didn't know any better.

My next three BMWs were a 2000 330i, a 2008 335i and currently a 2011 135i, all had Sport packages and I will never go back to a non-Sport packaged BMW. The Sports seats with adjustable side bolsters and thigh support is awesome and to me a must-have. The Sports suspension and summer tires are also a must-have in my book. The 3-spoke steering wheel is nice too. Course, most of this is irrelevant on the 135i since most of this is standard anyway.

Bottom line, not getting the Sports package is really a BMW noob mistake. Learn from us and you won't make the same mistakes.
