Differential Install Cost

Quick question for those who have had a complete final drive rear end installed. How much did it cost? Anyone have the install done by a shop in the NY/CT/MA area? Please let me know the details of your experiences.

I haven't had it done, but Ive seen 335i guys say its about a grand.
You could probably get it done for $500 at some local hole.
Depends on the shop. I would tend to prefer to pay more for a good shop, it's not like were talking about installing an air filter.

I think it's like 6-8 hours for an install excluding the unwhelding if you have a manual

Sounds like you are just swapping out diffs, really not hard to do yourself, you do need a special spanner, its like a 50 mm thin wrench to disconnect the drive shaft, (it's right to loosen on this, left to tighten) and the proper torx socket to disconnect the half shafts, BMW recommends replacing these with new ones, I don't think most do, and some type of jack and a spare set of hands is helpful, diff weighs about 100 lbs, but all in all not rocket science. I paid $300 (3 hrs) for swapping diffs. It's not that expensive in the grand scheme of getting a new diff or considering the custom tools you need.
