Is there supposed to be something on the underside of the trunk lid?

Is there supposed to be something in the indented space on the underside of the trunk lid? My car has a horizontal indent in the finishing material as if something might be there on other models or can be added. Just wondering if some cars come with a warning triangle or something like Audi puts in that spot.

It is for the BMW emergency triangle. US spec cars do not get it. Everybody else in the world does. You can buy it here for 26 bucks...

I see that part comes with the case. Does the case somehow mount to the trunk lid or do I need other parts to actually attach it?

Thanks for that link, I accidentally left my triangle on the side of the Autobahn a couple years ago. Still have the case mounted in my trunk though.

Also, US-spec cars do get them if you bought yours through US military sales in Europe.

How is the case mounted to your trunk? Does the case itself just attach with the two screws or is there something else I would need? Just wondering if I buy that part number (which says it comes with the case) if that's all I need to add it to my US spec car.

The part number you want is BMW 6 770 487. That will be the triangle, case and mounting brackets.

Any idea where to order that part? Seems like the previously mentioned part 82111466578 is what is available in the US. Does that not include the mounts?

got the bmw warning triangle as part of my ED for the e89 z4, and kept the warning triangle when I got out of my lease. The warning triangle fits perfectly in the space on the e82, just need mounts.

Worst case scenario, you can remove the interior panel and ghetto rig some elastic bands to hold the warning triangle.
I was thinking a bit of good velcro wouldn't be a bad compromise either, easy removal once you get the mounts, too.
