Make the move to 911 you already had a run on 135i.

Clearly the 911. M235i is going to be a significant step down from the 135i.

But ya 911 for sure all the way. Although I am sure the price difference between the two would be very big o_0

These two vehicles aren't even in the same class. Easily 911 if cost is not an option.
N55 and drive by wire steering are the most obvious differences. If the same loss of feedback from the F-body 3 series carries over, the 235 may no longer be a drivers' car. I'm hoping that isn't the case. |

In terms of engine, don't the current (post 2011) 135i and 135is use the N55?

Yes, N55 engine in 135 since 2011; and it's just fine, less fussy than the N54, and less problems. Not as tuneable, if that is important.

Same power and the crap EPS the rest of them have now. You also get synthesized engine noise. No upgrades at all.

The M235i will have the same power train as the M135i which has had good reviews and I have driven it and it goes very nicely better than the stock 135i

Depends on how you plan to use it and what is important to you. The BMW is a better daily driver, the Porsche is a better weekend car. Coming from a 911 turbo, I actually like my 1 better day to day. The Porsche is, however, a better drive and is definitely more fun.
The attention you get and road noise of the Porsche get a little old day in and day out.

I came from a 2008 911 Turbo manual with Sport Chrono to 2013 135is DCT. The MSRP on the TT was $132,000. I like the 135is better. I put 38,000 miles on the 911 TT in 3 years. I have over 2000 on the 135is after two months. I would grab a 135is while you still can.

M235i vs 911 depends on your priorities. If power is one of them and you're willing to mod, the 1 series kicks the base 911's butt. Even with N55 you're only FBO's w/meth away from roughly 420 fwhp and 480 fwtq against the 911's 350 fwhp and 287 fwtq. Light mods on the 911 will never get you close, you'd need a turbo conversion $$$. Even the new 911S with bolt-ons only gets you about even on hp and still short on torque.
The 911 will handle better stock-for-stock and probably even after the best 1 series handling mods you can find. And of course, it's a Porsche. I had a new Boxster S back in 2001-03. Fantastic car and there are things I miss about it, but I like my 135i better. |
